A great writer of the American Century passed away just shy of his 104th birthday. Truly one go the greatest American storytellers. RIP Herman Wouk

RIP. Loved the Winds of War books and the ones about the formation of Israel (forget the titles but I think there were two books).

He left some fine work behind.

The Winds of War and War and Remembrance are two of the greatest works of American fiction. I have always been a big fan of his books.

The Hope and The Glory. Great reads along with the Leon Uris tomes Exodus and The Haj if you want to understand the animus between the principles in the Middle East especially Israel and the Levant.

One of my favorite things about Wouk is that he wrote, essentially, a fantasy story about his navy service casting himself as the bad guy (Keefer, The Caine Mutiny, although he arguably had a lot in common with Willie, as well).
That's a brave and gifted artist who can pull that off.
He also worked in radio with Fred Allen, giving him a pretty good comedic background.
