Just finished this one. I love a good Puritan horror. The ended seemed somewhat abrupt, but I think maybe its because I didn't want to put it down.

quote:
Slewfoot is a dark historical fantasy set in a rigid Puritan colony where isolation, superstition, and religious absolutism govern every aspect of life. The novel follows a young woman forced into increasing solitude and social vulnerability as her position in the community erodes, while an ancient, mysterious presence awakens in the surrounding wilderness. Through parallel focus on human repression and primeval mythic forces, the story examines power, control, faith, fear, and the collision between imposed morality and older natural orders. The atmosphere is oppressive, folkloric, and increasingly uncanny, building toward a confrontation between sanctioned authority and something far older, stranger, and less obedient to human rules.
