Watched the movies again recently and it made me dive into the books again... Man these are probably my favorite. Anyone else read them multiple times?

I have read it many times. I used to grab it about once a year and read it. Haven't done it in a while now and doesn't even sound appealing. One of these days, though, I will read it again.

I read them once a year. The Ride of the Rohirrim may be my favorite chapter in any fiction book.

May give them another shot this year. I tried one of them when I was in middle school at my dad's insistence. Forget which one it was, but it really didn't do much for me.

Props to anyone who can read and re read LOTR. That’s too monumental of a task, too slow, and there are much better modern novels to read.

I’ve read them 7 or 8 times I think. Will read them again at some point.

So even though I have read LOTR I have never got around to reading the Silmarillion, do y'all recommend?

Would’ve been nice to have some of the Silmarillion stories fleshed out into full epics. Fantastic stories. But, don’t go into it thinking you are reading another LotR. It’s different in many ways. It covers thousands of years of history and many many characters. I’ve heard people say that the stories are disconnected, but that is not quite true. It took multiple reads for me, but almost everything and everyone is connected in some way. If you can follow it, it is very satisfying. It’ll make you look at The Hobbit and LotR with greater appreciation.

Everything is definitely connected. It’s just that the lore and backstory for everything is so fricking gigantic it’s hard to comprehend and keep track of. Makes the whole LOTR/middle earth universe exponentially better IMO

Not really. I read it after LotR and the Hobbit. While parts of it are interesting, some of it is extremely tedious to read and remember. There are a few stories that would have been great if Tolkien had spent more time on.

Will tolkein’s Son/grandkids continue the series? I think he wanted them to continue the series if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve read Silmarillion and Hobbit. I really didn’t enjoy Hobbit. But Silmarillion was interesting.

I doubt I ever get around to LOTR. My booklist is already at about a dozen, and I bought three more books yesterday: Canterbury Tales, a book on Crusades, and a book on British history.

I dont see it happening. The Son just stepped down from running the estate.

I expect we'll see many more adaptations now than what he allowed. He was very hesitant to allow any licensing agreements.

Not my favorites by a long shot but they are quite good and i've read them a few times. Read the Silmarillion a bunch and probably like it better overall cause of the scope

You don't get an idea of how powerful galadriel is until you read it.

She is without peer in the post ring creation storyline. She is effectively a walking demi god.

Glorfindel is was sent back my the Valar and is Believed to be reborn as Maia. Galadriel is badass though.
