Wife asked for gift ideas for myself, thinking of a book on Vikings

Want something different. I'm into history books currently and I've been on and off with books on the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WWII. Did a search of books on Vikings and this was one of the top ones. Not interested in Norse mythology per se, although I know that's a part of their history.
Anyone have any insight on this book, or the author?

Check out the wondrium streaming service as well.
They have a 30 part series on Viking history.
Each one is about 30 minutes.

I have these on CD. Will mail to OP (or anyone else I guess) if someone is interested.
They are good. Not great. It’s 18 hours of freshmen-level lectures.

Wife got me the book. A lot smaller than I was expecting but a good jumping off point, I hope.
