They fired Tubs for this guy? Are you freaking kidding me? OMG.

They're so frightened of Saban they're making decisions like schoolgirls that just saw a mouse. Unbelievable.

is there any real positive aspect to chizik?

he doesn't seem to be a good recruiter. he's nothing special as a DC (and getting good DCs isn't hard, contrary to our belief as LSU fans)

Iowa State is a tough place to win.

Auburn will soon too be a tough place to win

Tubby kept that program alive with his GA/Florida connections

just trying to spin it positively for Auburn...with Auburn down, Bama will not be in check in that state.

Oh well, I guess I wouldn't underestimate them. It is more important who he surrounds himself.

AU and Bama weren't really at war as much as we like to believe

Bama has owned the talent in the state of Bama for years. Auburn gets the 2nd/3rd tier Bama guys, GA guys, FLorida guys, etc

IMO Auburn is really in a no win situation. Alabama's recent success will make recruiting impossible. The competition is stiff, and after last year the team is falling apart. The only person that would have had half a chance was TT because he at least had the players trust.

I thought Turner Gill was a pretty interesting candidate. At least he took a crappy program over and IMPROVED it. Wonder why Auburn didn't hire him?

worst hire in history. here's to LSU finishing ahead of at least 1 team in 2009 without doing anything.

My take is that Chizik could not even make a difference on a team in the big XII north. Even if he never had a winning record, they were horrible his first year, then WORSE his second.

How in the world is he gonna make a difference when he has to face Miles, Petrino, Richt and saban every year.

Bad move start to finish.

Maybe he will be the King of the Upset. Opponents will laugh and not take him seriously. How many times have we seen that happen?

(WTF were they thinking)

I really like this quote about Chizik from and Iowa St Rivals.com writer

"According to multiple reports, Gene Chizik will be Auburn's next head coach. No, really, they actually hired him. While it's bad news for Iowa State that its here today and gone tomorrow head coach of the past two seasons was a titanic failure and colossal bust, it's good news that the decision makers at Auburn can't count and have unburdened Iowa State of its most unprepared, overmatched and incompetent head coach of the modern era."

This hire was a mistake... You fired one of the top coaches in the SEC for an unproven ISU coach...

Thanks for making the SEC West easier...

Auburn needed to hit a homerun after firing Tubby, theyve just whiffed big time. No matter how you slice it, 5-19 is a pathetic record. This is no upgrade. It's not even a lateral move. It's a horrible, horrible move

It starts to make you wonder just what was going on behind the scenes at AU.

But I'm finding myself agreeing with chicken a little bit. I mean the guy coached two championship caliber teams. Giving him two years to do something at Iowa state is not a lot of time. The Big 12 is no slouch of a conference.

As far as the recruiting issues, I think Alabama has enough talent to support the two big teams. I mean, if the USF's and Troy's of the world can put together teams that are good enough to compete with SEC schools (ok...not week in/week out), then I'm not too worried about AU. They'll be fine. Now, it'll take a little time to dig their way out of the hole they're in...but AU has a winning history and will always be around.

The Big 12 North is not that brutal. The Big 12 South is. ISU, Mizzou, Nebraska, Kansas, K-State, and Colorado is not the gauntlet Texas, Tech, Oklahoma, Okie St, Baylor, and A&M is. ISU could be able to go .500 playing in the north. ISU is not A&M.

Auburn is a tougher place to coach than they think. Chizik is not the man for that job. Then again, who else would want it?
