I think a lot of folks overestimate the effect that the quality of town has on coaches decisions, whether positive or negative. Most spend almost every hour at the office or on the field

Yep, and most college campuses are pretty damn nice.. considering that's all they'll see

he was offered more money but wanted to earmark money for top assistants. that's the main reason he bolted from wisconsin; he couldn't afford to keep his good coaches on staff.

Say what you will about Arkansas' program and how it relates to the elite of the SEC, but Fayetteville is an AWESOME place to live. In fact, NUMEROUS national publications have said the same thing. Don't be a hater.

Totally agree!

I'm not going to read this whole thread so maybe someone has already said what I'm about to say, but here goes.

It is both easier and harder to win at Arkansas. Sure the SEC West is brutal, but if you manage to win it, you are in the de facto national championship semi-final game. As inept as Houston Nutt was, he got there twice and really should have beaten Florida in 2006. As tough as Alabama and LSU have been, Arkansas was very close in 2010.

In the Big whatever, you have to go pretty much undefeated and hope you get some breaks to get there. It is hard to go undefeated in any conference, so really, the SEC is the way to go.

And even when the modified playoff happens, I think the toughness of the SEC will still serve its teams well.

If you want to win the NC, you need to be in the SEC. It is just about that simple.

Bielema also has $700K in yearly incentives that can add to his base salary of $3.2MM.

Graduation rate, APR, team performance, etc.

NWA has a Belk in Rogers. Baton Rouge--no such luck. End of story.

SO and I drove to STL for Labor Day, spent the night in NWA. Definitely a great place to be (though could you hurry up and widen 540?)

There used to be a Belk's in Fayetteville...just south of Fiesta Square in that shopping center on the east side of College. My grandmother LOVES these stuffed animal bears they have at Belk's every year...it's a tradition that she gives them to the great-granddaughters.

Cementing LSU's reputation as the most delusional fanbase in the country.

WRONG. we're there, we compete, we challenge annually but we just can't get over the hump. the competition is so severe and delusion so rampid that it's damn tough to be the most delusional. hell, just in the sec west we have to go up against tejas anm, msu, auburn, bama and...well, y'all. y'all are no slouch and it has been rumored that y'all, the piggies, are the best ever.

I say it's average at best.

And I'd say you're a butthurt coonass that can't call a spade a spade.

Kiplinger's

CNN Money (for Rogers - since I said NWA...and they're all bunched together)

Southern Living

Forbes

Forbes again

I'm not saying NWA's the greatest area in the world. But it's a great place to live. Objectively, subjectively, any way you want to look at it. I'm not making that shite up. I'm not speaking from rose-colored glasses. I'm saying from an economic, outdoors, public schools, cost-of-living, nightlife, and activities perspective...it's a great place to live.

That doesn't mean that OTHER places aren't great as WELL. Or are you of the opinion that these great United States of America has a shortage of great places to live?

That doesn't mean that Bielema came to Arkansas because of NWA. It only means that, to laugh at the notion that NWA is a great place to live is fricking beyond stupid.

...beyond stupid...LSU fan...typical.
