why the hell couldn't they call the same damn plays at the appropriate time in 2009 or 2010 as they did in 2007?
because crowton wants to install/call HIS offense

does it really matter who's offense or plays it was?
ask gary why we run so many spread looks and the spread option so much (without a running QB) now
crowton was a "passing tree" (as opposed to air raid guys of mumme) spread guy who attempted (and failed) to incorporate spread option at UO.
which offense has the LSU more resembled in 2009/2010, a spread/spread option look, or an i-form pro style offense

That's one understanding of what's transpired (and you may be right).
For my part, I'm not sold that '07 was mostly Jimbo's O. As I recall it, '07 was a refreshing change from the Jimbo years. There may have been some plays that were Jimbo's but by and large I don't think it was "his offense."
I think the O thru '08 was mostly Crowton's doing. There were some plays that were carried-over from Jimbo but the overall approach was Crowton's. Due to the ints (and co-DC defense debacle) I think Les did not want to repeat the mistakes of '08. Hence, goodbye Malleveto, hello Chavis on D and although GC has been retained it's no longer the free-wheeling O of '07 and '08.
Every OC has his limitations as will the next one. And something needs to change on O. Either Les needs to let GC return to a more agressive O or replace him with someone more adept at the pace Les prefers.

So in order to fix problems from 2008, Miles fires Malleveto (who statistically were better than Crowton at their jobs), and hired a proven DC. Perfectly logical, until you said:

So Les told Crowton to eliminate touchdowns from our offense in order to eliminate interceptions?
Good offenses control the ball and score frequently. Crowton has proven incapable of that when left to his own devices, as he has been the past 3 years.

LSU has a shitty offense. The rankings just verify what we all see. If you can't see it, your problem.

Not exactly. I'm suggesting that Les was not comfortable getting in "track-meets." Hence, after the mistakes of '08 he took a different tack by replacing the DC's and restraining the O (those who wanted Crowton replaced at the end of '08 were very few). I don't doubt that the QB situation also factors into this.
Just speculation on my part.

i just can't believe people come up with the jimbo offense in 07. that has to be the silliest thing i've heard.
there was an article about it that I read when he hired on and all the players talked about how they were keeping the old playbook with a few wrinkles in it to help with the transition ect.

assuming you're right, why the hell would we retain a spread OC if we don't want a free-wheeling offense?

most everyone pretty much agrees with this, except there is also the whole patter of crowton's offense failing everywhere he's been at, post-la tech

Is there really any more to discuss about how awful our offense plays? It's so predictable I can sit in the stands and call the run or pass and what direction it will go from the stands. I played high school football. What do you think a defensive coordinator with some training can do when they can scout LSU?
GC needs to go. If that doesn't fix the problem then all blame can be pointed at CLM.

Not exactly...I'm not a Crowton fan, at all, but to say it was basically Jimbo's offense is bullshite.
----------------------------------------
“I think what will happen is the offensive staff will get together with coach Miles, and we’ll sit down and we’ll look at the things (former LSU offensive coordinator) Jimbo (Fisher) did. He did some outstanding things here. We’ll look at things he did. We’ll look at things that I’ve done in the past, (things) that coach Miles has done and all the offensive staff. We’ll kind of melt together what we think will be the best opportunity for us to score points and win football games with the talent that we do have here. That’s kind of how we’re going to do it. We’re not going to just come in and just take one offense that we’ve all seen, whether it be Jimbo’s, whether it be Oregon’s or BYU’s or Oklahoma State for that matter. What we’re going to do is meld them all together based on our personnel here and what we need to do in this conference to win.”
------------------------------------------
“It’s been fun (working with Gary),” Miles said. “I sure have enjoyed how the offense has looked in a very short amount of time. We have been throwing and catching the ball very well as well as doing a good job running the football.
“I think there will be differences. There is a lot of fun being youthful in an offense that is being implemented for the first time and trying to have a position for you. The quarterbacks are thrilled with it, the running backs are thrilled and right now it is going really well.”
---------------------------------------------
Crowton has added an option package to the LSU playbook, and more "read" routes out of the shotgun. The quarterback and wide receiver will read the defense and adjust on the fly.
Crowton is doing some adjusting himself. He is incorporating the power running game that he found when he got to Baton Rouge.
"What I tried to do is keep as much of the good stuff as I was comfortable handling," Crowton said. "I don't want to try to do things I didn't know how [to do]. I added a few things I thought would be productive. At Oregon, we were very spread out. At times, there were some things you miss, certain things in goal-line, short-yardage."

again, did you read this part?
"people who state g.c. was successful in 2007 because he ran jimbo's offense are either so dumb or to ignorant, they can't figure out that g.c. more likely than not still know's the jimbo offense and could still call it.
"The most reasonable person would conclude, g.c. lost m.f., herman johnson, brett helms, q johnson and this had a big effect."
"there is a difference not because g.c. wants to call "his plays". there is a difference because j.j. can't do what flynn could. josh d. can't block like herman could. p.j. can't block like helms could, and because stampley cant block like q johnson could."
i can't believe you guy's think it's the actual "jimbo play" that made the offense effective/good. how simplistic is that?
especially since a lot of people on this board/the rant was so critical of the "jimbo" offense when he was here. truly amazing.

He didn't lie.
That's exactly what they did.
And it "melted together" into this hot piece of shite we have today.

Ok, here's a question:
Did the 2010 offense look more like the 2006 offense or the 2009 offense?

What blows my mind is the complete lack of creativity.
For ole miss and arkansas, we ran the I formation toss well over twelve times in each game. ( I use to have the numbers at the top of my head but forgot. In fact, I believe they were closer to fifteen a game). We ran the ball at Ole Miss 38 times. Nine of those were Jefferson so our running backs had 29 rushes. Conservatively, 41% of the time our running backs carried the ball during the Ole Miss game it was the I formation toss.
At arkansas, LSU had a total of 39 rushes, fourteen of which were Jefferson. 25 carries were handled by running backs. Again, using twelve (a conservative number) as the number of times we ran the I right toss, our running backs carried the ball on the same play call 48% of the time.
ETA: I suck at basic arithmetic so someone might want to check those numbers.

I have no idea how that pertains to whether 07 was Jimbo or Crowton...

thank you! i think the point is being missed or just not being able to comprehend. it's not about g.c. if he's good or not. to say 07 was a success because it was jimbo play, is absolutely ignorance and simplistic thinking.
with that philosophy, just study andy reid or sean peyton plays. they will work for you because they are any reid and sean peyton plays. they worked for them. therefore, they will work for you. garanteed success!

having a crappy playbook is crowton's specialty
he has moved from jimbo's playbook to his preferred playbook, and his playbook fricking sucks
i wish he'd adopt a playbook like the saints or eagles, but he won't. he wants to run HIS offense

Given the history of rumors around here, I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing that got "re-signed" was Crowton's contract. For another 4 years.

who the hell even knows what his offense is. It's not a pro-style offense, it's not a spread, it's not an option offense. It's a combination offense with bits of random plays in it that don't make any sense together.
