you missed my point
they are storied programs, without the pieces in place to contend for anything right now.
LSU is one of the few teams where a coach could come in and have what he needs to win NOW.
Miles is the poster boy for this theory.

Oh! I see... you mean similar to the way poor Kiffin stepped into all that second-tier talent at USC?

I don't think Michigan is having a hard time at all finding they're next guy. I think they understood that they weren't going to have much of a shot at the guy that they listed as number one, Harbaugh. I think either Hoke or Miles is number 2 on their list and I think they can have which ever one of them they want. Each day that goes by this week without a new guy being named, the chances for Miles to be that guy increase. If we get to friday without Hoke being named the coach, I would think we could ALMOST assume Miles has accepted the job behind closed doors. I'm saying this with the assumption that they do, in fact, want a "michigan man". If they do, no one available has a resume better than Miles.
I hope to God that they offer him the job and he goes. A new OC won't make a bit of difference on this team. As long as Miles is here we will be forced to watch his offense grind it out in a hard fought battle that comes down to the end no matter how strong or weak our opponent is.

quote:And Mark Emmert isn't at LSU anymore either. Alleva and Bertman aren't known as big spenders when it comes to pursuing a coach.
He wasn't a "big name" at the time, but when LSU gave Nick Saban $1.2 mill to come here, it was pretty much unprecedented.

what position is Skip Bertman in right now?

Heard Harbaugh turned down 5.2 mil per.
Niners are apparently offering him over 6 mil per year. Considering Carroll got nearly 7 mil a year from the Seahawks, I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up getting even more than that

But was there, or was there not, talent there when he got there?
He didn't lose enough players overnight to justify the season they just had.

overrated recruiting and NCAA sanctions are definitly a recipe for success and brining in a top tier coach

there was/is not much talent at USC, especially on defense

ask the USC fan below. But I'm sure he doesn't know as much about USC football as a 55 year old housewife from Walker.
