I still think this is the right guy for the job. Maybe not the best timing, but if he is the right guy, then LSU needs to make it happen.

The runner at my office agrees, so this must be the best choice!

How many MNC's over the past 10 years were won by coahes at their school for longer than 5-6 years?
Looking at the BCS Championship Games since 1998:
1998: Fulmer (6th full year, now in his 15th) vs Bowden (23rd year, now in his 32nd)
1999: Bowden (24th year) vs Frank Beamer (13th year, now in his 21st)
2000: Stoops (2nd year, now in his 9th) vs Bowden (25th year)
2001: Coker (1st year, fired after 6th year) vs Solich (4th year, fired after 6th year)
2002: Tressel (2nd year, now in his 7th) vs Coker (2nd year)
2003: Saban (4th year, left after 5th year) vs Stoops (5th year)
2004: Carroll (4th year, now in his 7th) vs Stoops (6th year)
2005: Mack Brown (8th year, now in his 10th) vs
Carroll (5th year)
2006: Meyer (2nd year, now in his 3rd) vs Tressel (6th year)
First off, the answer is 3, Fulmer, Bowden and Brown. If you want to go to 1997, Osborne would make it four.
Of the 18 BCS NCG participating coaches, exactly one of them has not made it to 5 years at the school they are at, Urban Meyer.
<6 years: Nick Saban - left for NFL
<7 years: Coker (fired) and Solich (fired)
<8 years: Tressel - 2 appearances, 1 win, still coaching at OSU, Carroll - 2 appearances, 1 win, still coaching at USC
<9 years: none
<10 years: Stoops - 3 appearances, 1 win, still coaching at OU
As you can see, these guys stick around and shockingly, what do you see? Oklahoma, Va Tech, USC, Texas, OSU are always in the top 15. The teams that aren't up there anymore? Miami and Nebraska, two teams that fired coaches after a short, yet very successful run.
So, you think that LSU stands a better chance to stay in the elite company of USC, OSU, etc if we keep bringing 2-3 year guys? I don't.

Included in this list are guys who have gotten fired, should or are on the hot seat such as Solich, Coker, Fulmer, and Bowden.

I never ever said this. I always said having a coach stay 5 to 8 years is just about perfect.

So 7 out of 10 NC's have been won by coaches who are in their 5th year or earlier.

No one is talking about firing a guy who is doing well. I have never said that. What I said was I didn't want us to go after a subpar coach(Mack Brown /cough) for the sake of longevity. I also don't want us getting into a JoePa/Bowden scenario where we can't fire our coach and begin rebuilding because he's been here for too long.
