That actually is correct. But I believe that the post above regarding the five year limitation may have been referring to a limit that Louisiana law places on certain appropriations made by the legislature. However, the contract of a football coach would not fall within these limitations. The state does not appopriate the money that pays the coaching salaries. There is no limitation on the years for a coaching contract that I can find, granted my Westlaw research was limited to about 10 minutes.

I'm not a lawyer and trying not to be a ranter but, how long is the deal that the Saints and the State have been working on. My memory is that the State tries to tie up the Saints for more than 5 years at a time.

In an employment contract (not at-will employment), I believe the parties simply have to state a duration. I don't think there is a limit to the duration. In other words, we just don't want to have perpetual contracts.
I think that's correct. No perpetual terms. I don't negotiate these things, just occasionally have to litigate one, but that's my understanding, too. Unless it's adhesive, which I doubt that a 7 figure/year salary for 10 years will be construed as adhesive.

If they said it...it MUST be true!
It was reported in multiple places. One of them even said, "traveled with police escort to an undisclosed location."
Sounds pretty freakin' scary to me.
My dad (who's recovering from gall bladder surgery) will be very pleased. Me -- not so much.

I was told that LSU didn't offer contracts for more than 5 years, don't know how accurate that is though and I'm not a lawyer. University rule or something like that.

I love how a group of lawyers just exposed a ranter.
