However, recruiting classes in years 1 & 2 were not as good.
year one was fine, especially when you consider that Miles didn't start until January. What problem do you have with year 2?

Holy crap.
Top 5 coaches are just out there growing on trees?! Sheesh. Everyone thought Dennis Franchione was a top 5 coach. Fired after 5 mediocre seasons. Dinardo looked darned good for 2.7 years. Fired after two more losing seasons. Gary Gibbs was an obvious replacement for Barry Switzer; Earle Bruce; Ron Zook; John Blake; Ty Willingham; etc. All great "hires", all mediocre coaches.
No one picks a top 5 coach. You try to hire the best coach you can find, who wants your job, who is available and ripe the year that you are looking and hope that he grows into a successful coach.
Do people really believe this nonsense?

Agreed. He's a top 15 coach in college, probably. If he'd left, we were going to get a top 5. I don't see how there's a question on this.

I wonder how many Les Miles haters will be going to the game or watching on T.V. Because I don't like watching or going to see teams that are UNDERACHIEVING. So if you have any issues with a team that is making it to a National Championship, its only 2 losses where in triple overtime, and played this session with some key players injured. I only have two words for you PISS OFF.

too many of you confuse not liking the direction of the coaching at lsu with not supporting lsu...this is stupid. it's illogical and it's the same arguement your buddies in the white house have been doing for years about the troops and the war.
i think the basic opinion among those who bemoan miles is that while he's a ballsy coach that has won many games, his teams have underachieved given the talent level there and the chinks in his armor like discipline problems and recruiting issues and lack of improvement in certain areas rubs many the wrong way.
to those who keep bringing up those 6 win yrs in the 90s and say lsu should be grateful for this unprecedented era, it's precisely b/c of that era that we fans don't want the program to descend back to that age of mediocrity. and some of the problems like discipline poor coaching decisions were what plagued the team.

The purpose of the post was to call out those of us who are not convinced Miles is the next Vince Lombardi. So as a thank you for going on the record with our opinion we are now going to be blasted? Pretty funny. I love LSU no more or less that the rest of you and spent quite a bit of money traveling to BR for the Florida game this year and I order the ESPN Gameplan package so I can catch the games on Tigervision. Being a sports fan is like patriotism. You may not necessarily agree with your leaders all the time, but you certainly are proud of your country and would never let your disagreements get in the way of that loyalty.

The problem is that you Miles-bashers create a level of expectations that is unreasonable and has no basis in reality. You say "LSU has the most talent, by far, of any team in college," when that is a flat out myth. There is zero truth to that statement, but you use it as a basis for saying that Les Miles and LSU have underachieved. 33-6 is not underachieving by any stretch of anyone's imagination, unless you are delusional and believe that LSU really has more talent than anyone else.
Winning a football game 7-6 is the same thing as winning a football game 37-6 in a coaches eyes as long as he sees the things he wants: good effort and improvement in quality of play. You can't honestly say that LSU has not shown quality effort in games this year. Yes, there are some quarters and drives we'd like to have back, but EVERY team, even the best teams in the country have bad drives and quarters. Fact is that our coach pushed LSU to never get down on themselves, came back from both 3OT losses and won the next game played against a tough opponent (Auburn, UTenn), and showed a resiliency that is necessary when playing injured and playing against tough opponents.
Anyone who thought this season (or last season) would be a cakewalk because of the scheduling and the home games is retarded. Florida is still Florida, Auburn is still Auburn, and Arkansas is still Arkansas. None of those teams became crap just because they walked into Tiger Stadium to play instead of their own stadium. The fact that LSU went 11-2 and the voters of the polls and the computer systems all still consider them to be the 2nd best team in the country speaks volumes about how battle-tested and successful this team is, not how lucky they are. Luck is something you rely on when you don't have talent and good coaching.
So which is it, is LSU the most talented team in the country? Or is LSU lucky?
I think they are neither -- they are a solid football team, with raw talent like every other top school that needs more work. And Les Miles is the man to do that.

It really really really scares me when other teams want your coach to stay.
see: coach "O", Shula and the Zooker.
So, one moronic fan from Auburn says he wants Les to stay (despite LSU's 2-1 record over Auburn and 3-year run of finishing above them in the overall rankings, 2 appearances in the SECCG to zero, etc) and this makes you worry? You really need to work on growing that ballsack.
And AUTigLN is not moronic just for making this statement. He has 4,000+ other posts that make that point very clear.

This about sums up the problem this year:
WE HAVE GOTTEN WORSE, NOT BETTER as the year has gone on.

Yes, every week as more and more of our players go down with injuries. Or should injuries to key players not affect LSU because they are so talented?

Keep in mind we are the first team in almost 50 years to make it to the National Championship with two losses.
1990 was 50 years ago
1990 had a split national championship,
Colorado 11-1-1 and
Ga Tech 11-0-1
You have to go back a long, long time to find a two loss national champion.
I feel no better or worse of Les Miles after the events of Saturday night.

Dr. - I am not of the opinion that we are the luckiest or most talented team in the country. I believe we are the most clutch and at the same time, destructive team in the country. As one author put it - the only team that can beat LSU is LSU. I believe this team has overachieved given the miscues.
