USC would have to pay 30-40% more for the pay to actually come out equal. Won't matter for the HC, but when it comes to assistants and support staff?

I thought they meant lifestyle for a coaching hire. Get hired at LSU, you're one of the richest guys in town and everybody in the whole state knows your name. Get hired at USC and only sports fans know who the hell you are and there about a dozen neighborhoods in the Southland you can't actually afford.

I just had this conversation... USC vs LSU

LSU is the far superior job across the board; but, some coaches may not want the pressure of the SEC West competition.

USC is the "Easier" job. Why move from a pond where you are THE large mouth bass to a lake where you have pike, Gator, Cat fish, Pig, kingfisher, Panther/Jaguar, Wolfs and Raptors all after your arse.

10 pts if you can figure out why I listed these animals...

You didn’t go to lsu. The star players party more than 99% of the student body.

agree with this.

I don/t agree with the recruiting aspect.

The article says USC has potential to be in the top five but fails to mention that LSU is consistently top five in recruiting rankings every year.

Nobody, particularly a native Louisianan like myself, is going to tell you that Baton Rouge is a better place to live than Los Angeles. Shoot, growing up in Shreveport, I never once heard anyone say anything nice about the state capital other than that I had to experience a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium

Does not compute

I guess it depends on what kind of "life style" one means. I lived in LA a while back and it was becoming a trash bin then. It is much worse today despite what is shown on TV. I would not want to have a family there, but being paid millions of $$ may mitigate that effect to some degree. College football is less than an afterthought in LA.

The distraction of all the racially ambiguous 10s walking around LA would totally corrupt me

If you like working in the hood, sitting in traffic, and commuting in LA everyday, then USC is the job for you. Add to that the high taxes and housing costs.

A national publication recently surveyed about 200 coaches, media members, and ADs on this exact question. LSU was 5th and USC 6th. LSU had the second most #1 votes and twice as many as USC. I don’t think it’s close. LSU FTW

They're factoring in cost of living, as well as California state income tax, which is 12.3%. Add the worst traffic in the nation to that, and it makes sense that they see the Louisiana lifestyle as being preferable.

I agree LA traffic is awful. I don’t see how anyone can put up with that routinely. Cost of living though? This isn’t some average joe making $100k who needs $150k to maintain a specific lifestyle.

A coach making $8-10 million per year can pay for a house in cash. He isn’t going to sweat paying $4.50 at the gas pump.
