While it may have been a garbage hire, it seems to have been anything but. So maybe that garbage AD saw something beyond his record at lowly Okie State. Maybe you need to step back and reassess you position on the situation.

Les Miles was a garbage hire by a garbage AD who was trying to get someone cheap that he could control, unlike Saban.

Where in the world did you get that piece of pap? I can understand that for reasons of your own that you hate LSU, but this type of post only makes you look foolish. There is nothing to indicate that control was ever an issue and neither man is garbage.
But just for the record, the head football coach does have bosses and his immediate superior is the AD, so if there was indeed a control issue, then the problem would have been on Saban.

But, he should have never been hired.

So, what you're saying is if it doesn't look right on paper it shouldn't happen?

What about that Boise coach and his great resume that ended up at Colorado? That worked out.

You have to compare Les Miles' record at Oklahoma State to its correct reference.

Les Miles had the best career coaching record for any coach ever to coach at Oklahoma State. That includes Jimmy Johnson. Yes, that Jimmy Johnson.

Les Miles also owns a better career winning percentage against Oklahoma than any other OSU coach. Yes, including Jimmy Johnson.

Les Miles far exceeded precedent at OSU. That's why he was hired at LSU. Not for winning 4 out of 7 games and 1 out of 3 bowl games.

Nice, rebuttal. Les has turned out to be a fantastic coach at LSU. It will take a lot for him to not go down as the greatest ever. But, he should have never been hired.

I think it is likely that we will hire a coach with a better resume than Les had at OSU. But, it will be very difficult for that new coach to match what Les has done here at LSU.

So you are saying that he was a bad hire by a terrible AD, but he could go down as the best coach ever at LSU? How does that make any kind of sense.

Maybe it was a GREAT hire and the results speak for themselves.

LSU lucked out with Les Miles and he was an absolutely horrible hire given the condition that Saban left the program. Hiring someone with the credentials Les had at OSU would make me go mad.
saban had a 58% winning % at mich st, miles was 57% at osu...

Nobody was talking these two coaches as possibilities

this job has become top 5 in the past 10 they'll get whoever they want

So is Florida, but they didn't get a top five hire in my opinion. Solid hire, but not homerun.

example, in 2006 we could have fired miles and got saban back. he was leaving miami and wanted to be back at lsu.

I have heard this before, is it factual?

It was not 2006, it was 2007. When it looked like Miles was headed to Michigan, both Saban and Tuberville's agents were talking to our AD about the job opening. Had Miles not had ESPN airing reports the day of the SEC CG that Miles was going to Michigan, I think Miles got painted into a corner and agreed verbally at the time to a contract extension. We beat the Vols, the stars and moon lined up by all those teams losing, and we ended up in the NC game. Had ESPN not jumped the gun, Miles very well may have ended up as the Michigan coach. It's true though about Saban asking about his old job through back channels. Things were not as good at Alabama back then as they are now and LSU was loaded with talent and a lot of it was players he recruited in.

Didja know that Miles beat Stoops 2 out of 4? At Stillwater and in Norman. 1 of his loses came on a last second field goal. That says he took Stoops' rejects and beat him anyway.

This. Many seem to just focus on the numbers and not the context, and also overlook the fact that Miles beat "Big Game" Bob Stoops and OK twice with inferior talent.
