I liked that good ol boy that filled in that one season before Franklin. Was his name Caldwell maybe? He's probably selling tractors somewhere and would love to come back.

Haha, close. He's the offensive line coach at Clemson. South Carolina native and played at nearby Furman. We like that good ol boy too.

Surely Shoop would take the opportunity to be a HC over the opportunity to be a defensive coordinator at Penn State, though?

Well...normally, it would seem so, but he is one of the coordinators who began following PSU recruits/commits. If there was some sort of recruiting sabotage, he could be caught up in it. Obviously, if that's the case, he would not dare to stay for the Vandy HC job.

Basically, if he does stay, it will kill the rumors about recruiting sabotage on his part. If he runs like crazy, it's just more smoke.

Probably Sean Payton or John Gruden since neither of those guys took the LSU job.

Since you are throwing out names like Nutt, what about Tommy Tuberville? Think he could be considered? I know he has only been at Cincinnati one year but he has won in the SEC.

Little bit of follow up on this: Kyle Woestmann tweeted this: "Dear new head coach, you must retain @SpenceChaos @CoachHand @CoachShoopVU!!! They are key parts to the passion and spirit of this team!!" Those are the twitter handles for DL Coach Sean "Chaos" Spencer, OL Coach Herb Hand, and DC Bob Shoop. If he is pushing for them to be on staff, I would imagine they are cleared of any involvement with PSU recruiting. Spencer and Hand have been rather active on twitter with motivational messages with #AnchorDown.

I thought Shoop and Spencer were already hired at Penn St?

I know Hand is interviewing for the HC job.

From what I read today the fav at Vandy is the Stanford DC.

I haven't seen anything about Spencer except players saying Williams should make the next coach agree he can stay.

Shoop appears to be gone. No official word yet, but it appears he is.

Again, no official word on Hand, but he is supposedly in the HC search. Whether or not he gets that job, I hope he stays.

Since Mason is the favorite, no worries about losing a DC. Messy situation. Hard to tell who is in and out. Players are even confused.
