UF was nothing before SOS arrived. He took him 7 years to win a NC because he had to build that program, something he wouldnt have to do here.

The point is that his last three years at Florida--after he had already built the program--were not as good as Miles' three at LSU. Both programs were in about the exact same shape, UF maybe just a little bit better. By the way, Lou Holtz did better in years 2 and 3 at South Carolina that Spurrier did. Moots is right, we don't need to be chasing coaches who peaked more than a decade ago. We need someone young, hungry, and motivated to create a legacy, not just to add an easy cherry to the top of one.

Yes I can, just like I can assure you Coach Mac would have been more successful if Coach Bryant hadn't been at Alabama

Well, that's probably a safer bet, but you can't "Assure" that either.

But if it makes you feel better thinking you can...you just go on and "assure" away...

Since you're on a roll, "Assuring things"...how about something meaningful like assuring me what the Powerball numbers will be before next weeks drawing.

I mean, "knowing" the results of future events shouldn't be much tougher than "knowing" the results of past events that never happened.

One last question...Just what color is the sky, in your little world!

Spurrier would be coaching the Tigahs to their second crystal ball if he'd been at LSU the past 3 years

considering that he could only win ONE in his prime with loads of talent at UF, this statement is ridiculous.

everyone needs to realize that spurrier-1996 is not the same as spurrier-2007

Florida won six SEC Championships in 10 years. Before Spurrier showed up they had won none. They had never beaten Bama in Tuscaloosa. Spurrier did that his first year

Spurrier would be fine, if we cannot get Tubby.

Tubby has a hugh buyout. Tubby is looking for a long term deal and that's what I'd like to have. A successful coach who wants to stay and not use it as a stepping stone

I don't think anyone is arguing with you that Spurrier did a fantastic job years ago. But the SEC is not the same SEC that he was dominating, and he is not the same coach that was dominating. We want the next Spurrier, not the one who peaked over a decade ago.

The SEC was just as tough back in the 90's. Bama, Florida, and UT all won the NC.
The next Spurrier would be great if he was going to be here for a while or until he retired.
If Les had come out last week and said I'm not a candidate for the Michigan Job(and meant it) I would be happy with our coaching situation.
LSU is one of the top 10 coaching jobs and I don't like being a stepping stone to other jobs.

You just contradicted yourself in those two sentences. You actually gave a great argument for whey the SEC wasn't as tough then, because it was easier in those particular years for that one team to run through the entire conference unscathed...

I'm with you Moots. It's 2007, not 1995.

While, I agree..that the above would have been nice, is it really realistic?

Let's be fair, Miles has been in BR for 3 years...

He's from the Michigan area (Ohio)
He played at Michigan
He graduated from Michigan
He coached at Michigan
He met his wife at Michigan
His first child was born while at Michigan!

Can you really fault the man for wanting to hear what they have to say if they're interested!

Even if Miles isn't interested (which I'm sure he is) Coaching is big business and it would not be in his best interest to announce he's not interested. (He's got contract negotiations to consider).

I think Miles has handled a "bad" situation as truthfully and honestly as possible...all things considered.

I also believe him when he speaks very fondly of LSU and personally believe if it was anywhere but Michigan he wouldn't even give it a second thought.

If its Miles's dream to go to Michigan he has my blessing and no hard feelings because he has conducted himself with honor, unlike Saban"The whore who ruined Christmas." I would love to see Spurrier at LSU. I believe Louisiana would bring the fire back to Steve. South Carolina has always been weak. Well weak for the SEC. Everyone knowing of course that the SEC is the superior force in college football. Spurrier coming to LSU would rival anything he did at UF.

Spurrier, YES. Tyrone Nix as Defensive Coordinator, NO! Spurrier, with Muschamp hired away from Auburn as DC would be OK......

I will say this about Spurrier. He is the one who exposed our defensive weakness for all to see.

I'll take him in a heartbeat. I want a coach that will put the gas pedal down and keep it down. I thought we had that after the VA Tech game, but Less has put constraints on this offense ever since. We don't need a big 10 mentality coaching this team. Win by one and get out of dodge. Not the way to play in this conference.
