Florida State has all of Miami's positives and less of their negatives. They clearly make more sense.
agreed.

The Miami talk is pointless. UF will never let that happen. UGA, UF, KY, SC AD's have each others back. They don't want FL St, Miami, Louisville, Clemson, Ga Tech. It will never happen.
Slive wanted Texas and A&M first. If he can't get both he will take A&M with Virginia Tech. If he can't get either. We may stand still. We may go after Missouri and VT. I think if we can't get one we stand.

2) They only show up on weekends the Dolphins have an away game
3) They don't tailgate
4) They sing their fight songs and cheers in Spanish

It's pretty ghey how much of a soap opera this is amongst the ADs.

They don't want those schools because UF , KY, UGA, SC are selling come to the home state school and play in the best conference in the country. And believe me it is a selling point. It makes it harder recruiting. And recruiting equals money because recruiting wins games.
As a UT fan it makes me a little nervous about Virginia Tech. Even though the thought of playing them every year is worth the risk. But Knoxville and Blacksburg are fairly close. They are recruiting alot of the same kids.
But again it comes down to money. TV deals national and local and regional. You don't want many schools in the same region as you. You want the best chance you can set yourself up for. These guys aren't stupid.

Does the SEC same state veto rule still exist?

that's true. However, I think lately Clemson has been doing better than SC in recruiting anyway.
But you are right. I mean maybe A.J. Green would have gone to Clemson if Clemson was in the SEC at the time.

Its all about tv markets. Florida already has most of the state of Florida. Miami really does not offer any outside market that the s e c does not have already.
Texas AM brings in some of the Houston, Dallas, and Austin tv markets.
Miami has nothing to offer right now that would help increase the tv dollars.

It's not hate for Miami, it's just that the SEC doesn't need them for a simple reason - No added value:
If you own a 1,000 Subway restaurant in Louisiana do you keep opening new Subways in Louisiana or do you branch out to new territories...The SEC already has a strong foundation in Florida; not so much in Texas..

B/c we already have TV in Florida. I want the U I think it would be awesome, but they want to tap into North Carolina and Virgina to expand TV markets.

Well that's a good point about "only state school that plays in the best conference." But that assumes that the SEC stays the best conference. IMO, the Pac10 and BigTen are making steps to even the gap. We need to be proactive in acquiring the best schools possible for the good of the
conference, regardless of minor inconviences to individual schools.

I honestly don't see the value in Virginia Tech either. Even though I do hope they end up in the SEC.
90% of their fans are east of Roanoke and there isn't any major markets that Tech could really claim. They do have a passionate fan base and travel well.
I hear talk of DC area and that is laughable.
But I do hope if anyone gets in Tech is one. I would love to get a shot at them every year.

1. Florida bring most of the TV market
2. Florida doesnt want them competing for recruits
THere are only 4 slots.
I dont want to waste one on Miami.
I want ADDITIONAL MARKET contiguous states.
NC, VA
Missouri,
TEX

The big thing, as has already been stated, is to keep a sense of "common culture" in the conference. If we're going to expand, we need teams with similar traditions, fanbases, etc. This may not sound like a big deal, but when we're talking about the implosion of the Pac-16 ten years from now because Texas and its minions are tired of 1000 mile road trips, 10:30pm kickoffs, and not having anything in common with their conference "brothers", it'll be evident that money may be good for the short term, but there are other, more important factors to the long term success of conferences.
