Let me clarify by saying that I don't think they deserve AQ status now, so although I agree that Cuse and Pitt are no heavyweights, they are not deserving.

Why not? They are exremely competetive, have a solid program and have great fan support. Playing in CUSA last year they averaged 49,665 fans. That was better than 22 schools that are in BCS conferences. It's safe to say that number would go up once they joined a BCS conference themselves.

If they increased their attendance just by 5-6,000 they would have been ahead of almost half the BCS schools in attendance. That's pretty solid for a non-AQ school. Their facilites aren't amazing but once they get that BCS cash influx they will be able to upgrade asap which will only help them more.

Being an ECU alum, I can say this has been in the works for a long time.

Yep the BE should have pulled the trigger awhile ago. Marinatto pissed off Pitt and Syracuse with that whole Villanova football debacle which should have never even been considered. Glad to see you guys finally get in.

Replacing Pitt with ECU should demand they lose their auto-bid

I like the move. It gives be some stability as well. I want the big east to survive. Now go add ucf and maybe fau.

Thanks. If only the Pirates could have got in with Skip Holtz at the helm.

East Carolina is fine team that seems to play a big team tough at the beginning of each year. However, have they even won Conference USA? I just don't see it. The BCS has wasted a spot on the BCS champ the past couple of years, did anyone watch those games?

Stadium holds 50,000

They'd have to add some seats to increase attendance by 5-6k

I stand corrected, but I still don't think the Big East deserves AQ status!

As an LSU fan I agree. All this conference realignment is going to end up in a playoff anyways.

I will tell you right now ECU will be a very good program. They were my Darkhorse to the SEC, because of the NC market. YOu think where Va tech was before entering the big east, that right the A-10. JMO

Yeah but I could swear that I've read that they can add on to their stadium pretty easily.

It's already a glaring mistake for the BE to have an auto-bid. Losing Pitt, and adding another lower-middling program?

I am not insulting your school. I am calling it like I see it. ECU is good for an upset per year. Kind of like UAB.

Yeah they closed off one of the endzones. If they upgrade the stadium again they will most likely put another upper deck in.

I can't imagine them trying to put in more than 10,000 seats. A lot of ECU fans are also UNC fans or NC State fans which hurts the school. However being that ECU has arguably been the best football school in the state, they are really starting to develop a solid fan base. The "young professional" fan base (25-39) has really led the charge.
