WVU isnt the dominant program LSU is.
and your hypothetical doesnt apply. The SEC is what it is at this point in time. We aren't looking for a team other then expanding our footprint.
and you mentioned a winning tradition....yea in the big east. WVU is a decent program but nothing more. Not SEC worthy imo. Very rarely in the SEC would they win 10 games. Maybe once every 10 years.
You mentioned a large filled stadium....what large filled stadium? WVU stadium would be one of the smallest in the SEC.
Sizable rabid fanbase.....what sizable fan base? granted they are rabid, but non thursday tv rating show that WVU doesnt draw much market share.
So you tell me, what does WVU bring that will make current schools more money and make the SEC better overall? besides the so called cultural fit which is BS considering they are not even southern.

Alma Mater #1 McNeese - not a chance though I think they could win the Sunbelt most years, lol.
Alma Mater #2 LSU - 3 (claimed) national titles (2 BCS)tons of NFL talent, self funded athletic program, only BCS level school in a state with high NFL talent pool, large fan base (instate and in many large metropolitan markets such as Houston, Dallas, NY, DC, Atlanta, etc) so hell yeah they are a lock for the SEC.

Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee would all easily be in. The rest would all have to fight for their spots, but MSU and Vandy would not be invited under any circumstance.
i wouldn't include Kentucky w/ Bama, LSU, UGA and Florida. their basketball championships are nice, but that's not a big factor for the SEC. there is a reason that the SEC uses football features in the logos.

Jesus man, my thread didn't mention WVU. The other two options everyone is talking about MU & NCSU are no different from what you just said.
WTF is your crusade really about, because you are on a blind rage anti-WVU tirade.
BTW, if this thread was about WVU, they would stack up well in all criteria against the other two. All criteria, except for area population. Notice I didn't say "tv market", because despite the populations in Missouri and NC, I just don't believe MU and NCSU rope in the majority of those populations like WVU does in their state/area

my crusade is that WVU should be a fall back option at best. Read the other thread I posted with the article in it. Then come back and tell me who the better option of MU, WVU, NCstate

True, a good get for the SEC. But wait, you don't have SIX MILLION PEOPLE within the borders of your state! How did ya get in?

NO thank you
ETA; I don't want to be viewed as being a WVU cheerleader in this case, but I am tired of the shady argument of TV markets. How the hell does MU only have a mid sized stadium and lackluster football tradition in a state with two large markets and an above average SEC population in-state? That's right, they aren't big on college football. Never have been, and probably will never be when they are so far away from competitors and will likely be worse off record wise in the SEC.

In case you haven't noticed, this whole thing has very little to do with actual success on the field. Kentucky would certainly be included in that group he mentioned.

In case YOU haven't noticed, this whole thread is about calling out the tv market myth. YOU and others think that Missouri and the tv market that it's in is worth more than the tradition and fanbase surrounding each team.
Houston most definitely has more people than College Station. Why do you think A&M would be in but not Rice or Houston? TRADITION and FANBASE.... none of which Houston or Rice has. People in Houston to L.A. to Boston will watch A&M play Auburn, but how likely are they going to watch Missouri against Auburn?

I was just saying Kentucky would be in the group that was mentioned for various reasons.

Rice and Houston don't OWN their markets. A&M does, that's the point.

Yes, nail on the head!
Missouri and NC state don't OWN their markets either.

A&M does
And its doubtful A&M owns any market. Longhorns own Houston too. At least right now. The gamble being played out by the SEC is that a sleeping giant with a large fanbase out from under the longhorn shadow can flourish and bring in a huge audience. The shadow that Missouri and NC state currently are under, are simply the out-of-state big boys (Texas, Okla, Fla St, Va tech)in their current conference. By moving to the SEC, they move from one shadow to another(Bama, LSU, Florida, Auburn).

I'm not sure why you were being argumentative in the first place. We agree. That was clear from the beginning...

Nationally...I guess, but that's not what anyone is discussing here. What you're talking about has nothing to do with markets.
