regarding Texas and aTm's package deal.
Does it specifically state that both schools HAVE to be in the same conference?
Or does is just say that a conference has to also accept aTm if they want to follow Texas. In other words....can they go somewhere else if they don't want to follow Texas.

I don't think its a state law. I think that its just an issue since the Texas state legislature will need to approve the moves since both of them are a state schools, and the overwhelming belief is that they wouldn't approve any moves that included the two schools being separated.

I think they can go somewhere if they want. The governor is an A&M grad so if they want something bad enough, it can get done. The legislature and an ex-governor are the only reason Baylor is in the Big XII anyway.

pretty much texas state pride and state funding.

It doesn't say anything about it in Texas state law. It's just the politicians threatening to remove funding (which I don't think they can do).
Chip is just throwing it out there because he's a longhorn homer that wants A&M to move with them.

I was under the impression that Tejas state government just wanted to look after as many Tx based programs as possible. From what I gathered, the packaging was more about protecting schools like TT & Baylor. TAMU doesn't need as much help because they're an attractive item in their own right. In short, we could probably get TAMU without UT. But if we wanted UT, we'd have to take TT & Baylor.
I'm not stating this as fact, I could be wrong.
