Bringing in Texas A&M and VT would add 10,930,410 new television households.
this is irrelevant unless we start out own cable channel
i don't know why people keep bringing it up
Really?
New markets bring new people watching your product. Your more popular product equals higher advertising rates. More advertising rates means more money for networks, including cbs/espn. More money for networks means more money for SEC schools. Not to mention schools getting more exposure in talent rich areas and the possibility of recruiting more from these areas in a peripheal view.

at Virginia politics would attempt to force the SEC to take UVA too
Give me Texas A&M and Mizzou in the West and I could live with that. I had no idea that UVa would even consider leaving the ACC.

the only real viewer bases are powerful programs
VT and Mizzou aren't big programs who have a ton of viewers to add

our deal is 15 years long and is set. we get what we get

missouri: no talent
SEC: already recruits the shite out of VA

I think UVA wants to stay attached to VT more than anything else (from an alum's perspective). I have no idea what the UVA board of trustees are thinking.

I hope Missouri ends up in the Sunbelt for starting this shite.

I'm gonna have to agree with the dirt-burgler on this one.

Yes and no. It is for 15 yrs, but there are provisions to renegotiation if the conference were to expand.

I agree with Missouri. Having an SEC team in Virginia brings alot more exposure than what we have now.

North and South Divisions won't work. The South would be way too loaded, while the North would be somewhat weak.

no guarantee we will get more money per school or even break even if we try to expand

we don't need it...well, at least UF doesn't (they really do well in VA)
Posted on 6/13/10 at 3:15 pm to Lakebound
Reading the VT message board...which sucked btw
...I see that many Hokie fans fear that if VT turns down the SEC than Slive would invite WV instead.
And that would be their worst nightmare.

And that would be their worst nightmare.

WV doesn't help the SEC, but that would hurt VT and UVA really badly

Companies that think like that get put out of business. If the SEC added 10 mil household viewing area to their base, they would be able to negotiate for more per school, at the least, they would get enough to pay for the increase of the 2 schools that joined.

Again. Move forward or fall behind. SEC is at the top now and has been for awhile, but to ignore the changing landscape would be to ask for everyone else to improve while we go stagnant.
Posted on 6/13/10 at 3:19 pm to Alahunter
SEC expansion has gone horribly wrong if WVU gets any sort of invite, even in a 16 team league.

Unless Saban demands it.

not really
not if those households don't watch CFB

if all we get is the same money per school, expanding to include mediocre schools is a loss

we're at the peak
we have developed the #1 model for success
i don't see why we're abandoning that model

what has changed? NU is going to the big10. CU is going to the pac10. that's it

expansion doesn't mean improvement

I'd think the powers that be would have more info on what advertising dollars they'd bring in than you or I on this, but if you have 10 million folks with tv watching habits, chances are you're going to pick up at least 10 percent to watch college football. Another million watchers at the base minimum is a huge pickup.

I don't think A&M will remain mediocre forever, they've got a good history. Va Tech, although ACC, still averages 10 wins a season. Not mediocre.

we're at the peak
And won't stay there with the status quo.

By expanding originally.

We'd actually be following that model.

expansion doesn't mean improvement
If done wisely, it does. See 1992.
