They do not have the secondary revenue generation streams that UT has and really this was the one lone financial advantage OU consistently had over UT the last decade.

I think things are still playing out - they may be laying down the groundwork for all revenue to be shared equally

And I'm not sure so I'll ask - does Texas make a lot more money from alumni donations than OU? I would guess that they do but the obsession of Oklahoma folks with the Sooners makes it a question worth asking (and it looks like the Sooners received $156 million in alumni donations last year

OU essential shot their mouth off, got put in their place by the Pac-12

This seems to be the point of view from the people in Texas - but it apparently ignores the comments from the PAC commissioner on revenue being shared equally being a major point of interest during expansion (which sounds more like they rejected Texas than OU)

I think if OU had pushed hard enough they could have leveraged an invite from the PAC - but I'm not sure they really want to join the conference without a continued tradition of playing games against schools in Texas (recruiting wise it seems like suicide - in spite of the Nebraska move). Losing A&M matters a little but losing the game against Texas would give them a greatly reduced profile

I'm not sure OU was rejected as much as carefully weighed their options and chose not to leave the Big 12 this year... they could very easily change their mind and go to the PAC, SEC, or Big 10 - they would add a lot to all of those conferences

There is some over-analyzing and face saving going on now.

Over the last couple of weeks OU basically said, "we're leaving for the PAC and soon-with or without Texas."

PAC said "not without Texas and we're not taking them with the LHN."

That's all there is to it and it makes sense. PAC doesn't need OU coming in and winning the conference every year with little to offer revenue-wise. Doesn't matter how hard OU "presses the issue."

Texas essentially gave the Pac12 an offer that they knew they would refuse. They do not really want to go anyehere they have to make concession for the LHN. They firmly believe that it si the next big thing and most likely are right. They have know for a long time that OU and OSU would never make it to the Pac 14. It makes no sense due to the fact it fixes none of the problems the Pac-12 currently have while muddying the academic profile. Sounds great until people start digging into the number of the whole thing. Without the Texas market the expansion does not make sense.

It doesn't matter if are looking at total donations or AD donations UT destroys OU, and pretty much 99% of the country. UT's raised 235M in donations alone last year overall and I think in the high 50's in AD donations. If you have ever looked at the overall revenue streams it is no contest.

On a side note 156M in total donations sounds great until you realize that UNT, yes North Texas, received 48M in the month of August this year. OU has and always will lag behind Texas just due to alumni base and the fields in which UT offers that have a high salary floor.

The Pac-12 is risking its long-term viability and its current position of strength over a few million dollars. It's not like the Pac-12 has a history of equal revenue sharing. Coming up with an unequal system where everyone is still making huge sums would not have been that difficult

It wouldn't surprise me if in a few years the Pac-12 gets boxed in by other conferences expanding because they didn't have the foresight to be a first mover

They weren't going to make more money adding OU/Okie State...the contract is locked in for many years...they didn't want to share the big pie they just got...just like Texas doesn't want to share...probably as simple as that.

The Pac 12 adds Texas, they hit the lotto. It will allow them to essentially put the PacN in every cable household west of the Mississippi. OU and OSU does not allow that. It is just $$. Anyone saying anything else is just fooling themselves.

OU obviously knew about this before they released the statement about Beebe and the LHN so I am kind of confused why they did that. It is very obvious Texas isn't going to change anything with the LHN or fire their puppet just cause OU says so IMO. There must be something else going on with OU behind the scenes.

Boren and Stoops telling Daddy Dodds that there is a new sheriff in town for as long as current lineup in Big 12 is around?

Like it is today??? I don't think so

This is a HUGE win for Texas.

Dude, your school has just been totally trashed by the current power broker in your conference (OU) that was solidly (at least on the surface) behind you last year. What are you smoking?
