If you ever wondered how a band like Phish gets the sound they do live, this video will show you how important pedals amps and effects are.
I get that their sound is more than just "strumming & picking" but to be able to keep up with all this while on stage is pretty amazing in itself.
He clearly loves this stuff as well.

Analogman TS9's and loopers are a HUGE part of his rig.

I went to my 1st Phish show last year in Orange beach and thought that they must be using taped back tracks but seems he really is just looping stuff live. Either way it pretty impressive to get those sounds replicated each night using pedals and effects
