LSU has always been a top Football Program

I love these people who think LSU wasn't a top program until Saban came.
Sure we had fallen on tough times in the 90s but LSU has always been regarded as a top 20 program

Um yes sonnyboy. LSU football history did not began when you were born 20 years ago. LSU has been a top program since the late 50s whether you or any other idiot thinks otherwise. Like every top program it has had down years. See Nebraska the last few years as a good example. It happens to all programs.

"Top programs" finish in the Top...we had some great years sprinkled in tween 58 and 03 but weren't consistent enough to be considered a "Top program" for many in between.

What color is the sky in your world sonnyboy? LSU had maybe 3 seasons in the 60s when they did not go to a bowl and be ranked during the season. Same thing in the 70s and 80s. The 90s had the worst stretch for LSU since the early 50s. When you are ranked and bowling for most of a decade that makes you a top program. Like I said whether you say it isn't means zip. Ask anyone who really knows football, like football coaches and football writers(real ones) and they will tell you that LSU has always been among the top programs in the SEC. Even Alabama had rough stretches.

they still are, wait till next year.

Rule number one...never, EVER say "wait til next year..." you might as well be a Wake Forest fan. I hate LSU as much as anybody, but what happened ten, twenty years ago or more means dogs**t...LSU is and should be considered an elite program...thats why its so fun to hate them...and its my duty as an Alabama fan. Good game....and I can't wait til the next time they play.

You don't know much, do you? LSU is No. 12 overall in total number of wins and is No. 14 overall based on winning percentage.

This is the correct answer.

120 teams play D-1 football, LSU has a better history than at least 105 of them. That's pretty much the definition of "top program"
Some of you rantards have no perspective.

CFBDataWarehouse, an excellent and well researched site, lists LSU as the #10 all time program: https://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/rankings/all_time_team_rankings.php

Does that mean that Princeton is 13th, Yale 18th, and Harvard 19th?

quote:Well, first of all, in the context of this argument- no one is questioning our rise to excellence in this decade and viewing it pre-BCS, as I was referring to, we weren't that high but I'll even give that much and ask, in the last 50 years we were NOT ranked at the end of the year for half of them...NOT RANKED. That's a "Top program"?

If you take out the last decade as I was referring to it's not even a question unless you're talking to LSU fans.

Oh...and your list is wrong I believe.
1988 we were SEC champs at 10-1-1?
You have a couple 8-4 records shown...those are worthy of a decent bowl I believe. But you're right...they weren't great years.
