My mother needs her privacy fence replaced, but the prices for wood is still very high. She has the money to replace the fence, but I'm trying to hold off until the price of wood goes down some or do it during the off season when prices hopefully take a dip because the supply and demand is down.

Anyone have a new privacy fence put up recently or had one put up during the off season? Trying to determine whether to just bite the bullet and get it done or wait to see if prices drop.

FYI, we plan to hire someone to do it.

Given inflation, I am not sure if wood is going to come down much more.

Build it now before your mom has to move out of there and into a nursing home

I did that in late 2020 with our deck. We had been talking about replacing it for years, and finally decided to go ahead with it and some other upgrades/repairs. Wood was starting to go up, and if I had waited until it went back down to a reasonable price, I would have missed out on 3 years of having a nice covered/screened in space. Also build a home office on one end that got used everyday during the WFH time. Worth it to go ahead and do it if it needs replaced.

I had an 8' x 138' treated pine privacy wall put up in January.
4x6 posts 12' long - 4' deep
5 laterals
1x6x8 boards instead of pickets

$6,200.00

After talking to several fencing people, I think the general consensus is it's not going to get better any time soon. I'm about to get some quotes and bite the bullet and get it done.

On a funny note, one of the fencing people said as long as Biden is in office that I had a better chance of winning the lottery than the price of wood going down. I think he makes a good point!
