I put down St Aug sod in my backyard around 5 years ago and every fall/late summer I deal with brown patch. Last fall I treated with Bioadvanced Fungus Control. This spring I raked up any dead grass and put some top soil on these areas. The grass in these areas seemed to be growing fine until about a week ago. I went offshore for 7 days and came back to dead grass in a few of these spots.

Anyone have any idea what I could be dealing with? Is this an odd time of the year for a lawn disease?

I think alot of us are having this problem this year. I walked around the neighborhood and noticed a bunch of yards with issues this year. I had a good looking yard over the past few years and this year mine looks terrible. I've hit the yard twice with BioAdvanced Fungus control and it has helped a good bit. Taking a while to come back but it is slowly coming back to normal.

I may try to hit it again with that. I dug around a bit and didnt see any grubs or worms. Between this and my 6 month old dog digging holes and pissing everywhere my yard is looking rough.

Yeah, I doubt that is fungus. It looks burnt. Are you getting rain? Irrigation working? Anything left on the ground like a plastic swimming pool or slip-n-slide? Did you apply anything? If you can check off all of those boxes I'd look for chinch bugs.

Maybe a little less rain than normal but we have had a fair amount(in the Prairieville area). Rest of the yard looks decent. No pools or slides. Applied Milorganite around easter.

I just went dig around a bit on the edges and there are some small bugs crawling around. I have some Spectracide Triazicide I will hit it with.

Chinch bugs are about the size of ants. Adults have a white half moon shaped marking on them. They move very fast and erratic.

What do you recommend to get rid of chinch bugs? Bifen?

I have the same issue and just looked and saw these too.

Will Bifen kill them?

I just sprayed my backyard with this. Went check after an hour or so and they are still moving around. Will report back later today.

I’m dealing with something similar. Half of my backyard is now dead.

I’ve treated with multiple fungicides, too dressed with peat moss, watered, fertilized, various pesticides. I’m >$500 in and still having new sections die.

Starts with becoming lighter green, then some yellowing, then looks stressed, and finally dies.

I’ve had centipede and zoysia in the past. I’m new to St Aug and it is a PITA.

I agree looks like chinch bugs. I put this: ELIMINATOR INSECTICIDE on mine and watered it in - shut them down.
