I'm a DeSantis supporter, but to date, his campaign has been a let down

It was always going to be an uphill battle for a few simple obvious reasons:
1) Trump is a de facto incumbent. And unseating a popular incumbent is extremely difficult
2) Trump has the name ID factor. There is no one on planet earth that has Trump's name ID. This is a major factor
3) The prosecutions/persecutions against Trump were going to galvanize the base, who we see it as an attack against us
4) Trump has a pretty big and loyal base. Usually primary canidates don't have bases, this is not the case with Trump
5) How does DeSantis court Trump's base without insulting the base. Remember, much of Trump's base see themselves vicariously through Trump (good or bad). To attack Trump, is to attack them.
These factors alone would put DeSantis' odds around 10%. One would have to assume his team knew this coming into this race.
The two paths he had were to either go extreme GOPe and try to run a clean sweep on the Bush/McCain/Haley Neocon base (which is still omly like 10-15% of base)or to go hard right and completely out flank Trump on every issue.
I think by and large, DeSantis is further to the right on most issues, but he has failed to make this known and stick. DeSantis had failed to have a major moment that really drew attention. Everyone remembers Trump coming down the escalator and talking about the Mexican drug cartels. This sort of imagery may not matter to the political geeks on the PoliBoard, but to the masses of primary voters, it does.
Can DeSantis turn it around? Not sure, seems unlikely at this point, but he would have to do some major shaking up in his strategy to make the come back.

It’s honest, but still a little premature.
I don’t know if Ron can beat Trump. I just hope enough people realize the bloodbath that awaits if Trump is the nominee.

Watch the DeSantis interview with John Solomon on RAV. I came away impressed. No canned responses. No talking points, he just ripped.
Watch the internview then ask yourself "can Trump do that".

I like DeSantis. But the fact that he got into the race shows a lack of awareness. Trump is unlike any other political figure in my lifetime (45.). DeSantis was never going to beat him and it has only further divided us.
I wish he would've stayed put, allowed Trump another shot, and then be ready in '28. Trumpers would've jumped on board at that point and I feel he would've had a real shot.
Now I'm even less optimistic about the future...hope I'm wrong.

He spends far too much time on “wokeness”, and far too little time on policy (in his campaign).
RFK is doing a much better job of this. I may not agree with him on as much, but he comes across much better.

It's just reality. I could never be a jersey wearer or flag waver for either side of this argument. I have to call balls and strikes as I see them. Which is why I take so many issues with Trump, as he constantly seems to be getting cozy with the left's scoial agenda, all the while making fatal, unforced, unnecessary errors that makes life more difficult for his supporters who have to constantly run cover.

If that happens, it might be for the better. I know it sounds weird but it would loosen the grip Trump has on the party.
But what if Trump were to miraculously pull off another victory? We'd get 4 more years of Trump, 8 of DeSantis, and we could maybe begin to restore some sanity to a country that many of us feel has gone off the rails.

Thanks for articulating my thoughts - wouldn't change a word - DeSantis is my Governor and I fully support him in that role - and would certainly have supported him in 28 - now he may be damaged goods in 28 - and I'm no political advisor guru but this was an easy prediction.

They're not going to go easier on him. They'll go harder. I think Ron can withstand the onslaught and reach enough independent voters.
