Back in 2018 when Ron was in congress: Jenniffer González-Colón files Admission Act to make Puerto Rico a State

quote:

34 members of Congress joined Jenniffer González as original co-sponsors of the bill. For the Republicans Rob Bishop (Utah); Don Young (Alaska); Sean Duffy (Wisconsin); Thomas MacArthur (New Jersey); Elise M. Stefanik (New York); Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Florida); Amata Radewagen (American Samoa); Jim Banks (Indiana); Don Bacon (Nebraska); Carlos Curbelo (Florida); Peter T. King (New York); Ron DeSantis (Florida); Mario Diaz-Balart (Florida); Ted S. Yoho (Florida); Brian K. Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania); Claudia Tenney (New York); Raúl R. Labrador (Idaho); Ryan A. Costello (Pennsylvania); John Denham (California); Scott Taylor (Virginia); y David A. Trott (Michigan).

Why does Ron want Puerto Rico as the 51st state? What's the reason(s)?

I understand why Democrats want Puerto Rico as the 51st state. It give them 2 additional solid Democrat senators and 2-4 solid Democrat representatives. I just don't understand the motivation of a "conservative" to support this measure.

You got him now! This is the important shite you “conservatives” care about. Meanwhile, the left just took over another institution while you were busy crying about inconsequential bullshite.

Why did trump donate money to the Clinton foundation then later run for president a 3rd time just to scrounge up money for his defense fund?

The rational explanation is pandering to the large number of Hispanics in his state. Horrible idea.

Why would Trump support expanding corn ethanol fuel?

Why would Trump endorse the Covid “vaccine”?

Those “why would” games can go both ways.

Admitting PR as a state would NOT be good for the GOP, but it is morally the right thing to do. They have been US citizens for more than a century. Among other things, they serve in the US military. But they cannot vote for President if they live on the island.

Sometimes "the right thing to do" is not the same as "the best thing for your political party."

Same with St. Thomas and a few other U.S. territories.

If/when the people of PR actually want that, sure.

None of their referendums have provided such a consensus.

It’s because you’re kinda dumb. There are more Puerto Ricans living in FL than any other state. He’s voting per his constituents wishes.

I don't know if it's even the right thing to do. Puerto Rico enjoys a lot of the benefits of the U.S. without much of the costs.

It carries utterly important implications you dang silly arse. It would add an automatic two Democrat Senators to bring it to 102.

Very true.

A reasonable compromise might be to treat the Territories much like DC. Of course, that would require a Constitutional amendment parallel to the 23rd.

We should allow them their sovereignty.

It is what they have wanted forever.

Oblige them.
