Have a deck in my backyard that is not covered and was cheaply painted right before I purchased the home. Cheap paint is chipping/peeling pretty quickly. I want to refinish it with something that will hold being in the weather, but don’t care enough about it to spend a fortune or a ton of time. I know, I’m being lazy, but looking for cheap ideas to refinish it.

Any help is appreciated

Sand it and repaint it with a decent paint

If you do a crap prep job on it, you could put $100 a gallon paint and it will look like crap before too long.

If mine, I'd pressure wash to knock off what paint is loose and get rid of any fungal/mold issues. Let it dry well and then sand the hell out of it.

Once that is done, either use a tinted waterproof finish like Thompson's Waterseal or buy good deck paint and repaint it according to the product recommendation.

You can't be lazy and expect decent results------unless you hire a pro to do it.

How do you feel about replacing it in X years because it rotted?

Pressure wash first then sand as best you can.
Make sure it is completely dry then apply 2 coats of Deck Over from Home Depot according to the directions. You can get it tinted from a large selection of colors.
I applied it to my deck that was in bad shape 5 years ago and it still looks good. This is not an advertisement for Deck Over but it saved me from having to replace the boards on my deck.
Good Luck.
