They cannot pass. I think against Georgia like 2-6 and 1 Int. passing. How do they run the ball so well and not being able to pass? Also they gave up a ton of passing yards against Georgia so their defense is not special. Should be an easy team to figure out and stop! When Les has a lot of time to prepare for a team he does a great job! I think he will have GT figured out pretty good by the time the game is played.

They run the ball well because they wear you down with 3 or 4 different RBs. By the beginning of the 4th quarter you are gasping for air and they are still fresh.

Look up Flexbone offense on Google.

Well if this season is any indicator we wont be prepared for them. We'll run around on D like chickens with their heads cut off and maybe start to defense it late in the game.

We have done a bad job of wrapping up this season and that will come back to haunt us if we continue in this game.

I agree...when the defense is out of position every time, it's hard to stop anyone.

If LSU would've ran the veer with Hatch all year, we'd probably be 10-2. It's worked since the beginning of time, but isn't sexy to the impatient fans so most big programs don't run it anymore.

It takes a disciplined defense that can tackle well to stop a offense like GT. We lose.

Josh Nesbitt actually can pass the ball, we just have not installed much of the passing game because of youth and inexperience with 11 new starters this year...nine of which are freshmen or sophomores.

...and with a BB (Dwyer) that averages 7.0 ypc and an AB (Jones) that averages 9.2 ypc, you hate to pass it too much.

Nesbitt (#9 dual QB in nation out of high school) threw for 2,256 yards his senior year of high school for 32 TD's and only 4 INT's...completing 60% of this passes.

The main weakness for LSU to exploit is the OL. Despite rushing for 486 against Miami, 421 against UGA, and 300 against FSU...we did not block well on the interior. Our AB's and WR's blocked well...and our OL improved...but they still whiffed a lot of the time. I mean they hit nobody!

Like us...you guys have a talented DL.

If you look at the film...you will see a lot of athletes in the backfield making plays...not so much knocking people off the ball...although you see more of it later in the games.

its not like they are just handing off to a RB for 3 yards and a cloud of dust

its the triple option, few teams use it, and its hard to see who has the ball

They cannot pass.

Well it is because in the flexbone a running play has are usually 2-3 different options to run, so the D has to split up to cover all the RBs. It's like any type of spread offense. It is designed to get one on one match ups, and if one man is out of position, it's a huge play.

It's not like traditional running plays where there is one ball carrier and the D can collapse on that player.

For example: the 3O ...

There's the dive, if the D collapses too hard then the QB keeps the ball and goes outside. If the D then tries to collapse on the QB he'll pitch to the backside A-back. You have to account for all three players, and if one of them can break a tackle or make someone miss or if a defender is out of position then you can easily get into the secondary.

it's called the veer.....

More like the flexbone. When it's run effectively, it's almost impossible to stop.

ha ha so true, i was worried about this when they announced CPJ and I watched more NAVY highlights to learn more about the 3O

actually our main RB, Dwyer's average TD run is 43 yards long.

When Johnson was initially hired at GT, I remember reading GT boards and fans were whining and complaining thinking that it would never work.

Is the overall consensus 100% approval right now? Personally, I think once he gets all the players that he recruits and for his system, it's not crazy to say that he could compete for a National Championship.

For those who love to talk football scheming..you may find this link to a Paul Johnson video (Football 101) from prior to the season interesting.

Of course, we cannot do any of the run and shoot stuff yet he described....but he shows a lot of the motions he can run out of his base formation. Heck...we really end up running a lot of toss sweep out of the I.

If this is too much board clutter...my apologies in advance!

No. His coordinators do.

Or did, anyway.

haha, well i think a lot of that has to due with the fact that we've had a bunch of mediocre-good teams in the past few years. you learn to be more realistic.

plus at GT there are a lot of nerds (including yours truly) and we learn to live on facts and trends and not delusions like some other fans do ::cough cough:: BAMA ::cough cough::
