This movie is disturbing and I don't say that very often. The downy prostitute, overweight girl with the plastic baby, and the little girl with her 2 older sisters bothered me the most. Most "weird" movies at least seem to try and get some type of message across to the viewer, but I didn't find any message in this one.
Can someone tell me what the point of this movie is?

its life for some people. i thought the night where the father and son drank in the kitchen and their friends beat up the chair was one of the realest scenes..

i didn't think there was much of a point to the movie....just that it was one of those, "what the frick" movies. it kinda makes you sit there with your mouth open watching in disbelief that someone would actually put this to film and release it....and someone like me would buy it!

Interesting, but ultimately, artistically worthless. The director couldn't even come up with anything interesting to sayb in the DVD commentary. Then again, he was sniffling a lot during it. Must have had a cold, poor dear.

I loved this movie.
This is my subjective experience with it: Initially I thought the movie was funny. Then I had time to reflect on it and decided to watch it again. The second time around it somehow seemed more disturbing. Given further time to reflect I was left with the overall impression that it was both hilarious and harrowing.
The filmmaker probably intended to portray what poverty and a lack of education can do to people. And possibly also to portray how such unfortunate situations can seem so strange and surreal to the point of them being comical.

Not even close to what the director said in the DVD commentary. He's actually from the area he filmed in, and said he wanted to just show "images" of life in the boonies.
All I really got out of it was finding Chloë Sevigny's nude photos on the internet.
Dayum.
