I thought the movie was alright. The character development was good but that was about all i liked.I thought the addition of Katrina was a bad attempt to tie in the new with the old. The movie was about 25 mins. too long. And finally nothing really happened, other than the boating incident which was a little ridiculous. Just my opinion, i am probably being a little hard on the movie because i went into it with such high expectations but it was an okay movie.

Spoilers....

Agreed with the Katrina part. I thought maybe that was broughten up solely to get the final image of the room with the clock being flooded. The character development was incredible. Disagree with nothing really happening. It was different then I had thought coming in with the key focus on the romance, but I wasn't expecting action much.

Overall, great movie IMO. Could have been cut shorter, but they really went into explicit detail in developing the characters. The movie was a choronicle of his life, it's hard to cut out significant periods.

It wasn't awful but I was unimpressed. This movie is basically a gimmick holding together a 2 1/2 hour series of melodramatic episodes. Practically every scene is built on someone dying, saying goodbye or reuniting. The problem is, the movie doesn't give you enough reason to care about the people involved in those deaths, farewells and reunions. I think the lack of character development is the its biggest flaw. Pitt does a good job of looking and physically acting old/young, but he doesn't really say much of importance or show a recognizable range of human emotions. Blanchett is terribly miscast. Plus, there are too many elements that seem to be lifted from other movies, especially Forrest Gump & Big Fish.

On a positive note, New Orleans looks awesome. Only Blanchett went way over the top with the stupid New Orleans via Hollywood accent, and they didn't film the whole thing in Jackson Square. There are some good performances, too. Tilda Swinton's character is particularly interesting. Maybe the movie should have been about her.

If you read the book they go into more detail about the significance of the people.

Saw it last night... pretty good movie. I didn't really get the whole Hurricane Katrina tie-in... seemed forced. Or maybe there was supposed to be more to it but it was cut out because the movie was already almost 3 hours long?

Very forced. I also thought it tried too hard to be Forrest Gump. There were a lot of scenes that could have been removed to keep that movie under 2.5 hours. Really, I don't think it needed to be narrated in the hospital at all.

Thought it fit in well with the reoccurring theme of death.
