I was watching something about fried foods paradise and they mentioned deep fried pickles. Is it REALLY good and how do you make it. I know about the batter but what seasoning do you put in it? And what do you eat it with, ranch dressing??

Hell yeah it is good.
Just seems like typical batter and you put lots of salt on it. Ranch dressing is a must for dipping.

Get some sliced dill pickles, crinkle cut if you can. Drain them, the soak for a few minutes in buttermilk. Toss the pickles in fish fry (zatarains fish fry works wonders), the fry at 350f for about 2-3 minutes, or until floating and golden brown. Dip in ranch, then slap ya mama.

Thanks. After watching that show it seems like a lot of good foods came from the south like Fried Green Tomatoes, Chicken Fried Steak and Fried Turkey just to name a few. Never heard of the Fried Pickles, I'm going to buy some today to fry.

Yes, it's good and yes, ranch dressing. There was a recipe in Southern Living last year--very easy to make.

Fried pickles... the best. I put some Crystal hot-sauce in the buttermilk for alittle something extra.

They are very good. I prefer dill chips not the long sliced ones. Make sure you use DILL not sweet pickles

Use the chips. The spears just don't cut it.

I've tried the Clausen sandwich slices and they turned out pretty good.

This is how I do them except I don't soak them in anything. I find the pickle juice is good enough for the fish fry to stick. Save your cash Opie and cut out the buttermilk. My bet is you can't tell the difference.

Just another cost cutting tip since we're in a depression.

Pluckers does the spears and they are AWESOME. I think they roll them in cheese or something first, but those are the best fried pickles ever.

Tried em both ways. While it's not earth-shattering without the buttermilk, it does help the batter stick a little more and adds a little flavor. The batter ends up a little thinner without the BM, but i'm a heavy batter kinda guy when i'm dipping in ranch.

I think you're just afraid of buttermilk coming in little foil packets?

I just tossed out a quart that has been in my fridge for a couple of weeks and the wife only used a cup of it. Guess I should have done something with it.

Same thing could be said about adding bacon to a cheeseburger. To each his own, I guess.

Didn't batter them, but I did deep fry bacon during Thanksgiving week. Never thought bacon could taste better, but it did. Guess I'll batter them next time.

I'm a heart attack waiting to happen.
