In which MorbidtheClown and I talk amongst ourselves.

Mrs. Vox's guess for Woodpecker is that she's Marsai Martin (Diane from Blackish). Her diction, cadence and size all tipped it off before they even got rolling with the clue package. That Jenifer Lewis (Cleocatra from S11) was her Ambassador only sealed the deal.

When Ship's performance was teased last week on TMS social media, it sounded like Annie Lennox. Hearing it through anything other than phone speakers last night and pairing with the apparent case of nerves that she was experiencing, I don't think that's the case any longer. Twitter believe it might be Belinda Carlisle.

Showbird can SANG. No guesses on who that might be, but she's going to go far in the competition. Twitter says it's Yvette Nicole Brown, especially with Joel McHale as her ambassador.

The Buffalo have me totally stumped. I don't know who B2K are/were, so if it was some urban boy band/group from the 2000s, I wouldn't have the slightest. I'd never heard of the Omarion person when he was Yeti. Vulture.com believes it might be Boyz II Men.

Sorry to leave you hanging. Had a bunch of stuff to catch up on.

Kind of surprised Elway would do this show. Always thought he took himself too seriously.

Once again I'm pretty clueless on the others.

sounds really familiar. And I'm going to kick myself for not figuring it out.

Voice seems to have too much base to be her.

has an 80's pop Janet kind of sound.

I'll join the fray.

Getting China Anne Mclain vibes. There is a connection to Jenifer Lewis though the Decendants movies. Maybe sang one of Lewis' songs. I only go this route because I don't know who Marsai Martin is. lol.

Internet is buzzing with Paula Cole. I know her as the singer of the theme from Dawson's Creek which i watched without missing.

Everyone thinks this is Brown. ETA: I feel like with Joel as the ambassador, this would be too easy a pick. Like, they telegraphed Elway, and would be here too.

I used to be a big Boys to Men fan. I didn't hear them in that song. Wanya has a very distinct cry when he sings but may have been suppressing as to not give it away. Future songs may tell a better story. B2K doesn't make sense to me...but whatevs.

Some of the speculation with Jewel having been the Ambassador for her has skewed towards some of the Alt 90's/Lillith Fair crowd - Shawn Colvin ("Sunny Came Home"), Paula Cole ("Where Have All the Cowboys Gone"/Dawson's Creek theme, etc).

The hard exhale picked up on the mic before her performance last week would indicate some manner of performance anxiety, and I don't know if either of the above would deal with that.

I know for sure that it's not Sarah McLachlan. She's second only to Debbie Gibson in voices that I'd recognize right out of the gate, and when DG was Snow Owl, I had her pegged from the clue package before she even sang the first note.

This is the first time they did not eliminate a well known name the first round. It was always designed to have people think, "WOW If they had that person on the show, what other big names are on the show!" Usually there are at best one or two well known celebs among the rest.

Yeah, I am firmly in the camp that some of those B list folks are one-timers because it would fill a hole in their schedule for a day or two, and that's all they can commit to. The early exits are often scripted, IMO.

After last night's performances, I still don't know who Ship could be. I guess I need to look up to see if Paula Cole was ever a cheerleader in HS who broke her foot. When I met her at The Cotton Club in Atlanta in 1998, she did not have the former cheerleader vibe. She was hippy chicking it up, complete with broom skirt and hairy armpits.

Looks like Vulture was correct on Yvette Nicole Brown. She wasn't the weakest performer of the night, though. Wonder if she had scheduling conflicts.

Who did he guess? We watched Deadpool 3 and forwarded through the judges' commentary.

Interview from 1998 confirms broken foot/cheerleader story

Getting China Anne Mclain vibes.

This is Marsai Martin from Black*ish, 10,000%.

I have no idea about the Buffalo. I don't know what a B2K is. Boyz II Men is the only reasonable wild-arse guess I can muster.

i miss a lot of these mostly because i don't watch a lot of the shows these folks are in. I was on the Sheila E. bus for show bird but, obviously that was wrong.

I could see the buffaloes being Bel, Biv, Divo. or someone similar. They just seem to have a lot more "young" energy and i have no idea who a younger trio might be.

Diane's feud with her dad's co-worker Charlie and pretty much anything that comes from Grandma Ruby are the only things that made Blackish watchable.

nailed that one, dawg. Didn't know who she was but, she sang really good. Thought from the beginning that the panel was guessing too old. She moved with a lot of "young" energy.

Paula Cole. wasn't sure until the John Wayne picture. Where have all the cowboys gone. Still sounds good.

Buffaloes. Boyz to Men sounds right . Saw a sign that said Dead End and they had a song "End of the Road".

Yeah, Boyz II Men had a producer/mentor die and that was the inspiration for End of the Road.

I wish they'd unveil Group A one week, Group B the next, etc. The first week costume reveals and wild-arse guesses on who each contestant might be is the best part of the show.

I find myself losing interest in weeks where all of the players are IDed.
