I remember graphite shafts use to play 1/2" longer than standard length and it had to do with swingweights.

My question is, now that graphite shafts are similar weights as steel (multiple weight options in the 110-115 gram range), do they still need to be a half inch longer?

I gravitate towards standard to half inch under standard and my joints really appreciate Steelfibers.

Swing weight and length can all be customized to your specs when you go to order. If you want a 37" 7i, they will make you one graphite or steel.

I guess what I am asking is if I decide to reshaft with graphite and the weights of the shafts are comparable, will the swingweight stay the same (ish) if I play the graphites in standard length?

To me, it would because there's no real change in weight... just material.

Oh, now I understand. The answer is not necessarily. Total weight may be the same, but weight distribution throughout the shift can be different which will cause a change in swing weight.

I learned the hard way this year that the grip weight can change swing weight. I guess the best way tot do it would be to try 1 clubs and see how the swing weight is affected. You might get lucky; however, I doubt it. Ive been told by club builders that it never works out without adding a lot of weight on one end or the other.

Get fitted and they'll do whatever it takes to get the best shafts for your swing matched up to your needs.
