Non-Displaced Pinky Fracture

Broke my pinky playing neighborhood football. Xray confirmed the fracture was non-displaced, so hoping for fast recovery time. Question: How long do I need to keep it splinted and when can I return to playing? Dr. said 4 weeks, but that seems aggressive. TIA.

Its a pinky. Tape that shite to the ring finger, and get your arse back in the game!

I broke mine right above the nail and it took for ever to heal.

As with any fracture, you need to immobilize it in order for it to heal. The longer it takes to heal, the longer you will have to endure the pain.
If you've ever had a fracture before and had a cast placed, you should remember that it didn't hurt while in the cast. Why? Because it was immobilized...and healing.

Awful advice. Depending on the fracture location, buddy tape would probably be a good idea. Early motion is important with hand and finger fractures. Prolonged immobilization will lead to stiffness.

Ya know what buddy taping accomplishes, right??
Immobilization of the finger
Source after source will tell you to immobilize/splint/buddy tape the finger for 3-4 weeks minimum
Otherwise, pain will endure for many, many months

Bro what are you talking about. Buddy taping isn’t immobilization. It’s specifically to get the finger moving so it doesn’t get stiff. Immobilization if casting/splinting/bracing. You’re arguing hand fractures with a hand surgeon
