Why so many "Soft Verbals"

Anyone who is taking officials is a soft verbal on most recruiting sites. Saban encourages them to take their officials. Guys like McCarron who are Bama 100% will be listed as softs.

As stated above, soft verbal just means a player is taking officials to other schools and has stated he is still looking around. He may very well have No intention of going anywhere else.
Its my opinion that no player is considered Solid until they sign a letter of intent. Thats how I look at each player. I dont rest easy for any player until then. Id like to be able to believe each player's word but crazy things happen prior to signing day.
More and more kids will start to commit early just to reserve a spot somewhere until their school of choice becomes available. It is what it is.
