So if you post on the M/TV board any you've probably at some point seen me talk about The Leftovers being my favorite TV show of all time. Pretty much perfect television. Really good/unique story, incredible acting. Written (along with Perotta) by Damon Lindelof, who wrote LOST. It has the crazy elements similar to LOST except a more "real" feel to it and they actually stuck the landing. If you haven't watched it, watch it, it's on MAX.
Decided to give the book a go. I have to say, this is the only instance I can say with certainty that I like the show better than the book. There are a few other instances that are close like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep/Blade Runner and Silence of the Lambs, but this is one I can say with certainty.
The book wasn't bad by any means, it's a good book, and this guy needs a ton of props for coming up with such a refreshing idea. Not only unique idea but also the way he approached the "after" of the crazy event. It's not a "ok let's figure out what happened and where is everyone" but a "ok this is how the world would have to go on if this happened."
In fairness to the book as well, it's fairly short and really only enough to fill one season of TV and the show went three seasons. But even in the first season the show created a lot more depth and drama to the characters and story.
Anybody read it? Thoughts on the differences between the book and show? If you haven't read or watched the show I'd recommend both and to start with the book.
