That makes a lot of sense. I couldn’t figure out why the entry wound was so big

I disagree with this. First of all, fragmentation would have resulted in more than one, significant entry wound. By definition, fragments means multiple shreds.
Second of all there is no evidence of a carrier at all, and even the evidence presented of a plate through the shirt i think is just angles from the undershirt mic he has on.

It doesn't disintegrate. There's still going to be a large piece of projectile. Just because that piece hit him doesn't mean all fragments have to.
