Area 6
31° calm
TC encore 35 whelen

In my saddle about 20ft up a big oak tree on a ridge just before it drops into a swamp bottom. I’ve been hunting in the bottom, but there’s a bunch of scrapes on this ridge, so I figured I’d give it a try this morning. Might shoot a doe since I’m not that far back, but looking for a big buck that’s been making some big rubs in the area.

One cell camera said 17*, another 19. I’ll just say it’s cold. No wind so far.
.270 Winchester

Hunting horns, so in a box that looks several hundred yards up our main road in both directions. Still no bucks at the feeders, seems like they are busy. Hoping to catch one on the prowl.

Good luck guys!

Snuck away from work to hunt the last 2 hours. Sitting in the same spot as yesterday on a food plot with much better wind conditions (no wind). 50 degrees hunting with a 30-06. I'm feeling like I at least won't repeat yesterday's effort in which I didn't see anything.

There are trees with fresh rubs dotting the tree line along the field. I'm really hoping one of the bucks in the vicinity stops by before dark.

Gents, it was ON this morning. Does flirting and moving, some serious chasing. Super wide 6 chased a doe across the road, he may only be 2 1/2 years old. Someone will shoot a nice deer a couple of years from now.

3 spikes, from nubs to cow horns, 7-8 does, what appeared to be a 4 pt (on the run) and the 6. A brute showed up at the feeder about 400-500 yards down from me. Could see his lady through the scope when they crossed the road, camera got a shot of my new ISO. First time seeing him. A ton of mass for our parts, 8-10 pts (couldn’t see brow tines, looked like at least one sticker.

Most deer I’ve ever seen in a single sit in 15 years hunting here. Confession. It was cold, and I was hungover, so I didn’t go out until 7:00, and drove my SxS right up next to the stand and got in. First doe showed up while I was lighting Mr. Buddy. Zero cares about that 1000-5 sitting there crackling as it cooled off.

And next weekend will be the end. My cousin is getting older, and 1000 acres is too much to keep up. Anyone got a place with a 6 BR house and 1000 acres I can have to myself? I’ll supply the shooting houses and feeders and the sweat equity.

Yeah, didn’t think so.

I’ve sure had it good.

That sounds like a fun hunt. My family sold off a 150 acre lot that I grew up hunting on and I never thought it wouldn't be there. Hurt bad losing the property when it was sold. Thankfully my in laws have land, but I know now not to expect to have it forever.

I saw a doe and two yearlings. Someone shot real close to me two minutes after legal light. No telling if it was on the property I was on or the neighboring lease. There was a sketchy group of hunters hanging out by the road on my way out. Put some bad vibes on what's already been a disappointing few weeks of hunting. We've also had an uptick of dogs on camera in recent weeks. Some collared and some are not. I might let some lead fly on the ones without collars if they come out during a hunt.
