We're looking for a place to go for Easter week and this area caught our interest. We have a family of six (kids 4-12yo.) We've done Belize, Cancun, and we're going to Costa Rica later in the year. Also, we don't want to travel all the way to Europe. I was looking for feedback on this area. Seems like a growing area with lots to do and good bang for your buck. Other option we're considering is St. Marteen. Any advice is appreciated.

Spent a few weeks there in November of last year.
November was very quiet but IIRC I was told Easter is quite busy there.
The town is very small and easily walkable, beach in town isn't very clean or particularly nice. Some locals were swimming at times but I didn't, you can see all of town draining right into it after a rain. I went surfing a few times, but it is a car ride, perhaps 10 minutes outside town, to the beach I went to. It was fine, not beautiful though, to me the typical Pacific central american beach. Sorry I don't remember the name. There are several different beaches nearby, but all will require a vehicle for transport. I'd recommend a 4x4 if you're renting. I can't comment on how "nice" or not they are.
The people were nice enough, and it was a chill vibe as there just weren't many people there in slow season.
I never felt at all "unsafe" or sketched out even walking at night.
You will not break the bank there, and I'd bet Easter is festive and nice.

Nicaragua takes the Easter holidays pretty seriously. Full week of nonstop parties. Be aware that most businesses will be shut down and it’s the most popular time of year for domestic tourism
