Long story short I have a faucet with a broken diverter that needs replacing.

It’s a twist on which can be twisted 360 degrees either way for 10 min without any movement. Not only that, but after careful inspection of the underside notch for the screw/hex screw to loosen it - I’ve determined it’s entirely inaccessible. So at this point I’ve hit the limit of plumbing that I’m comfortable with attempting (which isn’t much).

Before I call a plumber, does anyone have advice? Pictures below - top pic is of where the screw should be.. and yes that blue pipe is concerning me as I’m starting to think the previous owners who renovated the place might have somehow adhered the spout to pex or something.

Any advice?

Cut it off with a sawzall or oscillating tool

And if that's pex coming out for the tub spout, it needs to changed to copper.

That’s what I was afraid of. Ok, well I guess that’s what I’ll probably do. This is a dumb question but should shut water off to do this or is the actual valve for water controlled by the handle?

That's called a spout.

You do not need to shut off the main supply.

That is some serious homeowner/handyman level garbage I'f that's the case.

Hopefully there is easy access to backside of wall to stub out with some pipe for a solid tub spigot connection. If not, care should be taken to not cut too much of the pex off so it can be reused on some fashion. A grinder and cutoff wheel wil work for hacking enough off too see what is going on inside spout and a way to free it. Not fun to use inside a home though.

This happened to me in our shower a few months back. Sawzall took it off in a few minutes

There is an access panel on the opposite side near the toilet. Its unfortunately low and doesnt allow easy access to the area. Im not above cutting a small window in the sheetrock but id rather not if its avoidable

Appreciate the advice.
