I just don't think he has the length for this particular golf course...He putts well enough, but if it gets wet, he's just not long enough...

I pull for David Toms even though he went to LSU, seems like a great guy. But, I got goose bumps waiting for Bethpage Black

I love all these so-called experts who continue to demean David Toms with words of "choke", "over the hill", etc.

David is not a long-ball hitter, for sure, but he is plenty long when he wants to be. His strength is in finding the fairway and using precise iron-play and great putting to compete with the best. While I agree that an extremely long and fast track will be in Tiger's, Phil's, and other "bombers" favor, it's surprising sometimes how the shorter hitters find their way to the top many times on these courses by staying out of trouble and having good short games (i.e. Mike Weir, Zach Johnson, etc.). There will be a lot of missed greens by every player in the field due to the length of this course, and more shots are lost/made up by the strength/weakness of the short game.

David Toms is a winner, not a "choker". Absent back and wrist injury in the last couple of years, there would not be any hiccup on this guys record. Hey, 14 career wins is pretty damn good....not representative of a choke. Nor, is his multiple Top 10 finishes this year indicative of a guy that's "over the hill".

Choke?

Seem to remember him rolling in a really nice putt after going head to head with one of in the world's best in 2001 in Duluth.

david is definitely not a choker...bethpage is just brutally long and when he's hitting woods or long irons into par 4's compared to those hitting short irons...it's just not a fair comparison...it is expected to rain which doesn't help the shorter hitters...look who was in contention last time at Bethpage, all long hitters...
