Does anyone remember the Hallman, DInardo days...

...when our beloved program was on a slide that seemed we would never recover from. Many of you may not remember. It was so bad that UL-L was promoting that they were the only D-1 winning program in the state. (they were at that time) I remember sitting in Tiger Stadium on a Friday watching LSU vs. Arkansas. An LSU win would mean a trip to the Independence bowl. There were 40,000 in the stadium. I paid $5.00 a piece for 4 tickets. They were offered for free.
I give credit to three people for the resurrection of this program (in order of importance)
Emmert
Saban
Bertman
Without them, there's no telling where we would be. The question is: Could it ever get that bad again?

Dinardo deserves a lot of credit from where we were after the archer downfall and the curly disaster

I'll give you this one.
Dinardo was a decent recruiter (see: Kevin Faulk, Tommy Banks, etc.) and assembled a very good assistant coaching staff.

I remember being at LSU when the Italian Stallion was there and us not even being bowl eligible.
That was messed up.

being an LSU undergrad in the late 90s was able to give me a lot of perspective

I was able to make lemonade out of lemons during the Hallman years - I upgraded my tickets!

I remember us having poorly conditioned football players then. I remember being a fan of Herb but knowing he was limited. I remember back when our line couldn't block anyone.

Probably so. It was a beautiful fall afternoon in Tiger stadium. My memory is not as good as it used to be so I don't recall a lot of details about the game other than it was very strange to see the stadium that empty for what was a meaningful game. LSU was in contention for a bowl game after a drought and the excitement level was non-existent. Very wierd.

Unfortunately, I remember them like they were yesterday. I became a teenager in early/mid 1990's and that's when I really started to understand the game. I can remember many depressing afternoons/evenings spent in Tiger Stadium. I still believe the current/recent success is more enjoyable if you had to sit through losing season after losing season.

at least the initial assistant coaching staff...his replacements later were his downfall

I agree ... hell, about Dinardo: I even paid $20 to the "Buyout Jerry Dinardo Contract" fund .. Eagle 98.1 or wahtever station it was at the time had a fundraiser in Dinardo's first season ... Gordy Rush was in charge of it. No longer own the shirt, however.
AND I clearly remember the game in 1995 ... on the way home we passed a truck up that said "GOING BOWLING" ... my husband was like "who the hell cares" ... my reply was "Honey, they're talking about LSU going to a bowl game" ... all he could do was laugh at himself!
Good times ... well, at least I don't consider myself a fairweather or SPOILED fan ... I was a student at the end of the Archer Days, then Curly ... bought season tickets when it was Dinardo ... no matter how bad things get I plan to never give them up!

Isn't Dinardo the one that Thomas Dunson cut his tie in half on a recruiting visit Dinardo made to the kids' house? Kid said "around here we don't wear them ties"!!!

Absolutely! I still think he's a good coach. 1 season we lost a lot of games by fewer than 6 points. I know a loss is a loss, but we didn't exactly get blown out either.
