After reading these boards, I am wondering whether people really enjoy LSU football unless they are beating every opponent by 70 points. I love the atmosphere....the ups and the downs and the excitement of the game. Win or lose, it's an awesome atmosphere, and I love watching the tigers. Winning is great, but it breeds expectations that aren't always realistic. Then, when a group of teenagers and young adults don't perform exactly how you expected them to perform, it destroys your mood, your buzz..and ruins your entire weekend.

Reading the board, it seems that, even in victory, everybody is upset...mad....disappointed..or in despair. I dunno.....just seems that people have some f'd up priorities. Hell...I was so happy to see the Tigers play, and see them give it their all........I don't give a crap what the score was or who they played.

I'm guilty of living and dying with the team like most others on here. But sometimes I have fleeting moments of perspective as to how lucky I am to support such a great team/culture, and don't really know why I get so pissed off about it all.

Ok....back to ranting....

I'd say it is. Watching the meltdown here is fun.

Personally, I think it is an after-affect of having so much success this decade.

At least partially, the "us vs them" mentality has subsided and given way to an "us vs us" mentality. I think that is a by-product of being so successful and not really worrying about "them" as much because we've beaten "them" so often ... "Them" being the other team, whoever that is.

That said, all the negativity irritates the hell out of me. It is not good for the program in general, and it is an indication of a spoiled-rotten fanbase that has been invaded with bandwagonners. Despite what many idiots on this board would like you to believe, our program is on solid footing, and even in the shittiest year this decade with basically no starting quarterback we still managed to win 8 games, which is only one win shy of Ole Miss' greatest season this decade.

Hey Rumpie, good post. As a die-hard fan that just loves to watch LSU play, I too, enjoy it for the thrill of the game. Winning is just icing on the cake. We have a lot of fans, imho, that just need to put this stuff into perspective. IT'S JUST A GAME!! Then look at it in that we are so fortunate to have this team to cheer for.

Fire Miles.... j/k

I remember back in 97 we went on the road to play Vandy and came back with a 7-6 win (courtesy of a missed XP by Vandy). We were pretty happy to come away with a W even though Vandy sucked then like they do now.

To me...LSU football is tailgating.....big arse drinks from Murphys (RIP)...and the comraderie of a bunch of drunk coonasses and rednecks. Win or lose, it's a party....

Seems now it is becoming more "business"...which I guess is understandable to some extent. But screw that....(Probaby b/c I came up during the Curly/Dinardo days. We learned that you didn't have to win all the time to love tiger football....)

I have to say it was more fun from 97-2002 atmosphere wise when everybody had a big arse chip on their shoulder. The climb to the top was great. Fighting to stay their is fun but something is missing. That's why I am so jacked to play and hopefully beat a couple of teams that beat us last year.

I'm with ya ... in a way, it's definitely nice to be the "underdog" again, at least in a few games.

This is the correct answer.

Sometimes I think this is why Saban is looked back on with such splendor, despite a few years of mediocrity.

Those times in the program were more fun IMO.

Nothing we could do now (even a NCG win, IMO) could compare to the feeling of beating UF in 97. Or the feeling of beating UGA in 03, and just FEELING something special.

I miss those days.

It's like a drug. You keep getting higher and higher, and then eventually, you either have to stay high forever or crash and burn.

i used to get so pissed off that i would almost get sick. i'm talking ruin a few days over it depending on who it was. one day i just said "wtf am i doing this for? a damn ball game?"

i still get aggravated but now i just grab another whiskey drink, throttle my hot arse puerto rican girlfriend and forget about the game.

Nice thread, I don't think it's fun for many but they can't ignore the shine of the bandwagon. Driving home from Seattle we kept streaming 1210 and listening to it. If I weren't at the game I would have thought we lost.

I still think it's fun but dodging the folks that complain regardless of what happnens, is getting harder.
