My take on the LSU offense so far

I think everything we have seen so far is nothing more than video food for our opponents to eat up. So far we have seen damn near every formation possible is damn near every situation. Their is no way in hell a opponent could watch film and get a handle on what LSU wants to do. CLM & GC know that LSU could win these first few games mostly on talent alone so they aren't giving anyone a hint of what they want to do.

They can't throw downfield. The do not have confidence in Jordan as a passer. They have not given Jordan near the passing load that they gave Lee. Lee was thrown into the fire and was expected to make upperclassman type throws and more often than not he was successful.

Time will tell, but I looked at the GT bowl game the other day. They were far more wideopen and agressive. Why suddenly would they just get conservative? I think alot of it is protecting JJ in the early games and give him confidence without taking big risk.

He was very adept at the downfield throws.. his problems were the short-intermediate routes. He couldn't make the basic reads (that Jefferson excels at) to save his life.
That being said.. I hope we see plenty of both this year

I was thinking the same thing. Les Miles has yet to load up the backfield with all the available weapons so far. Our guys are hiding the good until UGA and UF. LET'S HOPE SO!

The problem with the LSU offense is not Jefferson or the lack of confidence in him by the staff. The problem is the OL is basically the "watch out" unit. The play starts and two guys get in before Jefferson has time to survey the field. Anyone who thought the OL was going to be the best in several years was smoking something (and yes I know Les Miles was one who said that). Everyone was worried about the DL...I wasn't. The DL and the defense is going to be fine. But Hebert, JD, and the rest of the OL need to know that unless a screen pass is called (which of course LSU never calls anyway), they are supposed to actually pick a player and block him.

I got the impression that they are trying to be a little to tricky and not show tendencies, just my thought though.

I read an article in the Advocate saying that more downfield throws would be called so let's hope. I'm all for building confidence early on as LSU can afford to do so against lesser opponents. Hopefully this plan might set up the offense nicely for State, UGA and UF!

I think enough downfield throws have been called (as evidenced by Jefferson having to throw the ball away after looking downfield). I think more downfield throws will occur if the OL decides to actually block somebody who is pass rushing. I give the OL a D- so far on pass blocking and not much more than a C on run blocking. The skill position players are doing their job on offense...time for the trench guys to start doing theirs. Oh, and that includes some false starts penalties near the goal line that have been occuring.
