How does U of Florida OR the SEC office think that a first half suspension against Vanderbilt is any punishment for a player that engaged in dangerous and potentially criminal activity on the football field? In my opinion this is worse than the one punch and out of control behavior of the Oregon player in the first game of the season. It is obvious that the university and the SEC office are more concerned about winning games/championships than developing these players into productive members of society. I can only hope that LSU would react differently, and I honestly think that there would be fan support for a MUCH stiffer penalty.

It's amazing the guy has won two national championships and people still don't know his last name.

Not much of a penalty for someone who went all Moe Howard on another player at the bottom of the pile. Could Meyer have looked any more insincere when talking about the incident?

Worse things happen in the pile. I guarantee LSU players do things like this all the time. It actually happens everywhere, pro, college and even high school (Hahnville comes to mind). Spikes was caught via video. The refs didn't even see it. The punishment was sufficient, IMO.

If he sucked, he would have been kicked off the team. There is a guy who used to play for Oregon that was kicked off a team for doing basically the same thing (and he doesn't suck).

It ain't about his name buddy. I could care less. It could be Jimmy Johnson the way he "punishes" bad behavior.

Urbs said that he lets Spikes poke him in the eye once a week when he's blowing him so he knows the pain and thinks the risk out weighs the reward.

That's like saying that an armed robber who is not caught is not punished, so the one who is should not be punished either. The fact remains that he WAS caught, and on video.

Dumber than the previous one actually.

Whether or not you believe that the "punishment" is appropriate is a different issue. I for one think that Meyer's handlng of this was disrespectful, inconsiderate, and chickenshit, but that's just my opinion.

These are facts.

"Everyone" does NOT engage in eye gouging in football and it's NOT "part of the game." When was the last time that you saw coaches running eye gouging drills in practice?

You may not think that this was a big deal, and that's fine, but please don't try and generalize and minimize this sort of thing with false statements.

This sort of thing soils the sport that many of us have grown to love.

not to mention, if they do actually punish someone for doing this sort of thing then maybe, just maybe more players would get the idea that they shouldn't do it.

when you tell someone that they will only get a half game suspension against a team that they are pretty much expected to win against, whats to stop them from doing it in the future.

Does anyone remember what punishment if any the goon who chop blocked Dorsey got? That ticked me off. I haven't seen this gouging thing yet so can't comment on it but was it worse than the chop block?
