LSU Cross Country Team

Is horrible. Their top guy at this weekends NCAA Regional finished 77th with a time of 34:06 for 10k. That's not even a good High School Time.
As a team LSU finished 18th (next to last). We lost to such powerhouses as McNeese State, SE Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin and Arkansas.....Pine Bluff.
Why even field a team if we're not going to try?

Does the Cross Country still run on Golf Course? Do they still practice on the levee?

Drop the team and add soccer.

That is an awesome idea. Unless LSU throws out $$ to get a solid distance coach, LSU will never establish itself as a competitor in the distance runs/cross country. Elliot sucks at coaching past the 800m

Les must be coaching Cross Country too.

But let em run across an gator-infested swamp!

The problem is LSU doesn't recruit distance runners. They may occasionally recruit a foreigner who can score at NCAA in Track. But Men's CC is the only NCAA sport w/ a national championship that doesn't give scholarships...CC guys get Track schollies....of which there are only 12 1/2 for the whole track team. And LSU isn't going to use 3 or 4 track schollies on distance guys. We used to....but that was a long time ago.

Good post
Do you have any idea if Parson is healthy for the men? Btw, we ought to be much improved on both sides.

I don't know much about the individuals on the team anymore.

Ok
Are you just a fan like me, or did you have some sort of afiliation in the past?

surprising b/c the state of La has some pretty good high school distance runners... I guess they peaked in high school or didnt materialize... or they just leave the state or go elsewhere
o well, its just cross country, hardly a money maker or sport that most people care about

I ran for LSU a hunerd years ago.

Yes they are bad. The thing that most people don't know is that the top 3 runners on the team (only 5 score) are not running this season. Two decided to redshirt this year and one is injured. These three are much faster than everyone else on the team and if they had be running LSU would have beaten all the schools mentioned above.
However, that doesn't excuse how terrible the rest of the team is. The team was never great but just a few years ago at least they were in the top half of the SEC...

Dude I haven't ran for competition since I was a freshman at La Tech 3 years ago, and I could still probably do better than that!!!
Hell I did better than that in high school!!!

Thanks, I didn't know that. But like you alluded to, You should still be able to find 5 guys that could run at least a 32 minute 10k. When I was there, we had 12 guys under 33 minutes including 4 walk ons.

All the runners who scored on our team were able to do that, including most of the ppl who were on LSU's team at the time.

So true. Other issue is that LSU considers itself a sprinters school. It will never cross their mind to field a good distance team until a new head track coach is in place. Until then, Elliot will be here to help recruit sprinters.
