First off, Greg Williams has been terrific this season. Without him, no way we're 13-1 and sitting atop the NFC. I just feel the past 4-5 weeks or so the defense, as all can see, has not been the same. Yes, one can point out the injuries to Greer and Porter which have been crucial. But, it seems like his blitz packages now aren't working like they did in the beginning and opposing offensive coordinators have been able to pinpoint his strategy. Any thoughts on this? Hopefully we get it rollin' with the Playoffs near! Who Dat!

2nd stringers make all defensive packages less effective.

Look at Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc....

A healthy combo of Greer and Porter makes it much easier to dial up some of his more exotic blitzes. Remember what the defense looked like early in the season, when guys were coming from everywhere? You can do that when your corners are good enough to play on an island..and the guys he's had to field lately aren't good enough.

It also means that Sharper has to play deeper than he did early in the season. When he was picking off all those passes he was basically just roaming around center field.

You can't blitz if you can't cover one on one with your corners and we can't right now. Both corners were out, a starting olb was out, one starting dt IS out for the year and the other one has been hurt most of the year, other than that the defense is just fine !

One thing to remember is early in the season the Saints would get up on a team by a couple of touchdowns. The defense would put a lot more pressure on opposing team. When they beat New England, there were two corners that didn't have a job two weeks prior. Makes all the difference in the world. The run defense gets tested each week the Saints don't get up a couple of scores on a team.
