Why The Run D Will Be Better In The Playoffs!!!

In the first 5 games of the season when all of our defense was healthy we were not getting the ball run all over us. Why? You ask. Because since all the injuries started Gregg Williams has had to change his scheme to fill holes in the defense. Thus making for less blitzes, not having 7-8 in the box and droping linebackers into coverage.
Heres the season stats:
Week....Team....Rushing Yards
.1......Lions........33
.2......Eagles......79
.3......Bills.........89
.4......Jets.........109
.......Bye Week........
.6......Giants........89 (Lost Fujita)
.7......Dolphins....140 (Fujita Out,Lost Ellis)
.8......Falcons.....161 (Fujita and Ellis Out)
.9......Panthers....188 (Ellis Out,Lost Jabari and Sharper)
.10.....Rams........141 (Sharper,Jababi and Ellis Out, Lost Porter)
.11.....Bucs.........119 (Jabari,Porter and Ellis Out,Lost Vilma,Gay and McCray)
.12.....Patriots.....122 (Jabari,Porter,Gay,Vilma and MaCray Out,Lost Fujita)
.13.....Redskins....89 (Jabari,Porter,Gay and Fujita Out)(Portis Out)
.14.....Falcons.....89 (Jabari,Porter,Fujita Out,Lost Ellis and Young)(Turner Out)
.15.....Cowgirls....145 (Jabari,Ellis and Young Out,Lost Shanle,Gay and Pressley)
.16.....Bucs........145 (Jabari,Shanle,Young,Gay and Pressley Out, Ellis played part of the game)
.17..Didnt Matter
In the first 5 weeks opponents averaged about 70 yards game. (Before Injuries)
In the last 11 games opponents averaged about 150 yards a game.(After Injuries)
Every game since the injuries(with the exception of the 3 games, 2 of which the starting RB didnt play) the opposition rushed for over 120 yards a game.
Gregg Williams will have all his pieces in place(With the exception of Grant)and he will be able to run his scheme the way he wants instead of filling holes. Thus defending the run and putting more preasure on the opposing QB.
CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!

now with all the defense healthy, they will be able to do more run blitzes

I hope we play the Eagles so our run defense won't even be a point of contention

I'd have to partly disagree, although I think we'll see more insane blitzes out of Gregg come game time. After watching a lot of the early games and comparing them to late games, Gregg's "style" hasn't changed a whole lot...Tampa and Dallas, however, poor Malcolm Jenkins (by far not the first time) got worked.
The secondary has been pretty serviceable considering, but Gregg pretty much depends on man to man coverage. Porter and Greer just barely get the fit, but Jenkins just gets beat (I attribute this to inexperience, not talent).
Come game time, I think we'll see a VASTLY improved defense...although I swear if I see the 43 "over" look again, I'm going to peck his eyes out.

In which I totally agree. The loss of both Porter and Greer was just crippling. However.....

So basically we continually got worse as the season went on.
quote:
.1......Lions........33 Went out to a huge lead early!
.2......Eagles......79Offense on fire, early lead forced them to pass!
.3......Bills.........89 Solid game!
.4......Jets.........109 Solid Game!
.......Bye Week........
.6......Giants........89 (Lost Fujita)(Big Lead!)
.7......Dolphins....140 (Fujita Out,Lost Ellis) We only gave up like 32 yards after quarter 1! Adjustments!
.8......Falcons.....161 (Fujita and Ellis Out) (All on Troy Evans dumb arse!)
.9......Panthers....188 (Ellis Out,Lost Jabari and Sharper) ((Shut them down in the 2nd half)
.10.....Rams........141 (Sharper,Jababi and Ellis Out, Lost Porter) (Shut them down in the second half!)
.11.....Bucs.........119 (Jabari,Porter and Ellis Out,Lost Vilma,Gay and McCray) (Yes, injuries biggest issue)
.12.....Patriots.....122 (Jabari,Porter,Gay,Vilma and MaCray Out,Lost Fujita) Good Game and big lead!
.13.....Redskins....89 (Jabari,Porter,Gay and Fujita Out)(Portis Out) (Passed all over us and didn't need to run)
.14.....Falcons.....89 (Jabari,Porter,Fujita Out,Lost Ellis and Young)(Turner Out) (Decent Game!)
.15.....Cowgirls....145 (Jabari,Ellis and Young Out,Lost Shanle,Gay and Pressley) (loss of Pressley hurt)
.16.....Bucs........145 (Jabari,Shanle,Young,Gay and Pressley Out, Ellis played part of the game)(Defense just didn't show up after 1st Qrt)

I have a somewhat different opinion. The Saints jumped out of the gates in their first few games...putting a lot of the points on the board early and forcing the other team into a more one-dimensional approach...which played right into our hands considering our pass defense is much better than our run defense. I believe that our rush defense has been equally as bad throughout the year...its just our offense masked our weakness defending the run by starting so quickly. The key to the Saints success scoring early and often...bottom line

This Exactly
Having 2 corners who can play SOLID Man Coverage, in this case Porter & Greer, is so underrated especially in an agressive scheme as Williams.
