Miles said redshirt freshman Chris Davenport stayed at defensive tackle because "he wanted to remain on defense." Sophomore Chase Clement shifted from defensive end to tight end. Redshirt freshman Drayton Calhoun moved from running back to cornerback.

seems w/ that quote Davenport was approached ab a switch. LM really looking to move another DT over to offense? We wonder where the depth has gone on the DL

Well, maybe CD had a want to be on the DL, and thus was able to stay there.

This staff has moved more guys around than any other crew we've ever had. I think....

I guess he thought he would move Davenport to the OL because he would think he would look cool there.

Bc LSU is really hurting at OG, but what's one less DT?

...if he's mediocre at DT, I say leave him there too because he was a 5*!

Point is, even the guys that watched practice forsaw this coming because he was just ok or mediocre playing DT.

Because he was so highly rated coming out of high school means he's going to be a badass?

What if he's better suited for the OL? Who knows? Just hope he improves.

he's a rs frosh, how ab developing him? But you're right, LSU has DT's out the arse, what's one less when you can have another backup OG?

So you have absolutely no doubt that Davenport is better suited at DT?

I have no doubt DT is a much greater need than another backup OG next year, and the fact that he was an All-American means he has at least some talent there.

I love how message board posters question coaches with 10 to 20yrs first hand playing/coaching experience and see the players every day in practice

always cracks me up

reminds me how when I was coaching we always had the parent that wanted to know "why arent you playing my son/daughter more?" instead of the more appropriate "what does my son/daughter need to work on the earn more playing time?"

The first version implies the problem is with the coach, the second implies the need to improve is with the player. We always used to say "come to practice, stand next to us and we will point everything your son does wrong and you can see for yourself." We never had a parent take us up on the offer.

from what I gathered reading some updates, the same ones as you do, is that he pretty much struggled at DT. Obviously that was true because of the rumors about them wanting him to switch to OL.

Obviously, there has to be a reason they wanted to move him. Lack of athleticism? Lack of something.

you're thinking this is just another boneheaded mistake by Miles without even knowing how he performs on the field. How about giving the benefit of the doubt? If he doesn't have it at DT, why not find a spot where he may be successful at?

FWIW, he was an All-American in, what? 2A? Al Woods was hyped in 1A and we saw how that turned out. Of course those guys are going to dominate at those levels. The guys they are going up against are 6'0, 195 lb OLinemen.

im so fed up with the development of our line on both sides

he isn't gonna get coached very well so he should be able to pick where he underperforms

I love the 'you're not a coach so you can't criticize them' line. The last two years are plenty enough proof that they're above any second guessing, right? 20 yrs first hand playing/coaching experienced really showed through last year is how well the team was run.

I have no doubt that at the rate we move players from DT to OL we will literally run out of bodies.

9-4 with incompetent QB's. Personally, I don't think that's terrible. But that's another argument for another day and I'm not getting into that bullshite again.

OK, so by his performance, he'll get buried by true freshmen and never see the field because you just want bodies there. Seems fair to the kid.

I'll give it up to Davenport though. He wants to stay there and it shows that he is willing to do what it take to play DT. Props to him.

he was a true frosh, and other than a report by Lazarre, I never saw that anywhere else

b/c he's shown to be bonehead-prone

f he doesn't have it at DT
he's a rs frosh, develop him.

Spears, Clayton, the list goes on. He held his own in the AAA game and every camp he went to. He could be another all-american DL bust, wouldnt be the first, but the lack of development by this staff is shown time and time again to be lacking, so I'm a lot more hesitant to just chalk it up to another 5* bust so soon

the best team LSU beat last year was? LSU couldn't even put away far inferior teams. Not developing players falls on this staff, it's a theme w/ them
